About This Listing

Another incredibly cool box of inspiration from Oberheim! As a huge fanboy of all the old Oberheim synth stuff, I was woefully unaware of this unit until only recently. Ever since I installed it in my rack it’s my go-to for anything and everything. It’s shocking just how useful this all-in-one box of effects actually is. I also own an H3000 and a DSP4000 from Eventide. This thing is almost identical and certainly just as cool but factually has much more studio grade features and better resolution @ 24 bit depth. The edit menu is almost the same as Eventide too so clearly this was the Italian answer to the immense popularity of the H3000 at the time. We had to pop this one open to repair the headphone volume knob and she’s now in perfect working order. It’s features 124 presets of incredible effects and everything can be rewritten with the touch of a button.

Even the interior topology of the PCB and the Eprom section is clearly taken from the Eventide series. It’s actually pretty cool to see someone as cool as Oberheim take a stab at these inspiring effect boxes… and right under our noses!

I use this in the studio as simply “inspiration in a box.” Essentially, it has 24 bit Hi-Rez processing and can do just about anything you ever need done in a studio. You could literally use this as a bus comp and all the way to a spectral analyzer. It can be a buss eq or just a regular signal processor for eq, modulation, pitch shifting, delay, verb, comp, space echo… you name it. It even has a guitar tuner built-in! Balanced input & balanced output. It has x4 TRS in an out as well as x4 XLR in an out too which is very cool, not many units have that kind of I/O flexibility. It of course has Midi (2 in, 2 thru and an out) and also can be controlled with a footpedal and even a separate volume pedal. It has separate inputs for hold and tap pedals as well plus a slew of other I/O. It’s is also probably the heaviest piece of 2U gear I’ve eve left owned. The digital EQ on this box is surprisingly useful and sounds fantastic. The compressors are decent but the delay, reverb and modulation effects is where it really shines. It’s built like a tank and weighs about a bajillion pounds.

The screen is nice and bright and has no issues at all. Contrast can be adjusted with a dial. The rack ears are not bent and the input level LEDs worked perfectly. All the buttons and switches and knobs work as they should. None are sticky or going.

The volume knob was just repaired this week in preparation for sale. All the inns and outs were sprayed with CRC electronic silicone cleaner for sensitive Electronics.

The unit works perfectly and is ready to inspire you in the same vein as an H3000 for way less!

Make sure to take a look at the picture of the spectrum analyzer section I’ve included in this listing. You can run any signal through this box and identify the exact frequencies and amplitude of that signal, which is extremely handy in a recording studio environment. I almost bought a TC electronic clarity
analyzer for $400 but found out this box can do that too! There’s very little this box cannot do and is a true sleeper of the recording industry. These are shooting up in value and I’m in no rush whatsoever to sell it so price is firm.
