IS THIS THE UGLIEST BASS GUITAR IN
THE WORLD???
Teisco/Global Hybrid! Vintage
Teisco (Kawai era) Model EB-120 Spectrum Series Bass, Made in Japan CIRCA 1969,
with Global (Made in Korea) neck.
I had originally thought I might restore
this… but it is a so hideously mangled Frankenstein Monster it’s actually a
work of art (what kind of art I don’t know). I do know it’s a “one of a kind”…
I’ve never seen anything like it and neither has anyone else in the Facebook
Groups and forums I have shown a photo to! I thought, before I start the
restoration process, I’d see if someone can love and appreciate this Bass
guitar as it is right now.
As far as I can tell from my research, the
pickups, body, and bridge are original Teisco (Kawai era) Model EB-120 Spectrum Series, 30 inch scale.
So is the pickguard. The pickguard, originally black with white flowers, has
been painted to resemble copper (and the shape modified, perhaps to accept some
new pots?). Notice the totally out of place Gibson style volume and tone knobs?
The neck is branded Global, and has 3 original tuning machines and one
mismatched replacement.
The finish is…. well…. I’m at a loss for words. Looks like the front was
stripped and left raw. The back is a work of polka dot art! This is a laminate
body and there is some lifting of the top layer on the front, I presume from
the striping of the original finish, that need to be re-glued down.
I’m going to let this listing stay up
until I’m ready to tackle the PROJECT… so anyone interested in this bass “AS IS”
please contact me.
OH! BTW! YES! It actually works and
plays!
