13" Stainless Steel Cymbal - 483g - 22 gauge, 304 stainless steel - Prototype Series 1 Made by Lance Campeau of The Cymbal Project™
Stainless steel cymbals & gongs feature a complex tone that is rich in even and odd harmonics. The tonal bandwidth, volume and sustain are more narrow and focused when compared to traditional B20 bronze cymbals. The sound of stainless steel is actually closer in tonality to cymbals that are made from nickle silver. When played with drum sticks, stainless steel cymbals have a very sharp and defined stick response and shorter decay. For percussion artists looking for fresh and different sounds out of their instruments, stainless steel is an ideal medium that responds well to soft mallets, friction mallets, bows, metal rods, wire brushes, water drops, etc.... A wide variety of haunting and unusual soundscapes can be coaxed from cymbals and gongs made from stainless steel.
The Prototype Series 1 is thefirst edition release of custom made cymbals by Lance Campeau. There are 18 cymbals in the series, each is made from 20 or 22 gauge, annealed state 304 stainless steel. Every cymbal in this series is a handmade, one-of-a-kind piece. A variety of hand crafting methods have been applied to each cymbal in the series. All cymbals show extensive signs of use/testing (dents, scratches, warping, etc...).
Here are 3 demo videos I have produced featuring my prototype stainless steel cymbals being played on a traditional drum set with regular sticks...
The Cymbal Project™ by Lance Campeau is a video series on YouTube that is dedicated to the topic of cymbal repair, modification and creation.
