About This Listing

This Gibson J 185 is a beautiful guitar, to play, to hold, to look at. You're getting a whole lot of value out of an acoustic this good.

This guitar is as versatile as it is curvy. Crystal clear tone, rings like a bell. Play with some attack it and you'll wake the whole neighborhood. Just a lovely build of one of Gibson's best instruments. This particular J-185 was built in the Bozeman Montana factory by hand. Serial number 008 of this variety. It has a nicely Amber Spruce top, some stunning flame maple backs and sides. One of the most comfortable necks you're likely to find. Gold Grovers and a player friendly set up and action. This guitar has been barely played and when it was it was babied.

The J-185 was originally released in the early 1950s and designed to be slight smaller than its larger companion, the SJ-200, the J-185 still offers superior performance and tone. The J-185 Original maintains unsurpassed balance of lows, mids, and highs, with equal response to every note on the fretboard. Acclaimed by many as the perfect body size and shape for any player.

This is a right handed guitar. Only one very small finish ding near the binding, the rest truly as it was delivered 15 plus years ago.

Sold with the original Gibson hard shell case. 2005  #01255008

This is a lovely example of a J-185 with a sweet balanced acoustic tone.

This J-185 has a nicely Amber Spruce top, some very attractive figuring and flame maple body and neck. The gold Grovers are in good order and the set up and playing action are excellent,

The J-185 is believed by many to be one of Gibson's best acoustic instruments, yet it seems to be fairly obscure, much to the delight of devoted Gibson lovers. Originally released in the early 1950s and designed to be slight smaller than its larger companion, the SJ-200, the J-185 still offers superior performance and tone. The J-185 Original maintains unsurpassed balance of lows, mids, and highs, with equal response to every note on the fretboard. Acclaimed by many as the perfect body size and shape for any player.

This J-185 has a nicely aged amber spruce top, some very attractive figuring and flame maple neck.

This is a left hand guitar. Some very small dings here and there and some very light lacquer checking as you would expect from an aged Gibson nitro finish.

There is also a blemish on the guitars back (see photo) probably resulting from it resting on a guitar stand.

Factory fitted Fishman Prefix plus pre-amp ideal for stage or recording use.

This is a lovely example of a J-185 with a sweet balanced acoustic tone.
