About This Listing

Damn! Anyone else completely hypnotized by that faux wood paneling and those beautiful silver buttons? This is a super amazing piece! It’s made it all this way through time and it’s never been used!

This thing sounds SO GOOD, and it works absolutely perfectly! It was kept in it’s original box in a climate controlled storage situation for it’s entire life since the early 80’s, and it’s just now showing itself to the world. It records and plays back super perfectly, tape speed is dead on where it should be, and the recording quality is fantastic. It has some Lofi tape quality to it with all the good artifacts that you want that come along for the ride when you record on tape, but it really does sound beautifully clear and fantastic. The onboard condenser mic sounds great! I sat in front of it with an acoustic guitar, and just the sound that came back at me right off the onboard speaker was incredible. Deep old school tape tones, very pleasant to listen to. There’s lines in and out for interacting with a digital recording setup, you could put this tape machine in a room with live drums and get some amazing results with just the onboard mic and then line that signal right out into your digital interface. The line in option could totally work with an external mixing board, you could line in an entire mixing board of drum mics or whatever you want and get some insane results. I’ve done that before on similar units, it’s a cool unorthodox method that gets super cool results that definitely has a cool story attached to it about how you got there. These old tape machines (when they’re working perfectly like this one lol) are so cool in the studio for flying in cool parts on songs. Reamping parts that were already recorded in digital out to this machine and then back into digital (amazing on vocals), sometimes I’ll play an acoustic guitar along while monitoring off the digital track but recording into the onboard tape machine mic and then put that tape acoustic guitar track into digital and then line it up. There’s so many cool things you can do with a tape machine in the studio with a digital setup that will add a huge analog presence and texture.

This thing is in basically mint condition, there’s a few little scratches in the upper right corner on the brushed aluminum, but take a look at the pics it’s obviously stunning haha! It could be in a period piece off a movie set where every last detail was accounted for. Comes with the original box and everything that came in the original box! Warranty cards (I dare you to call that phone number haha), tape cleaner setup, and instruction cards. This thing is right out of the past, it’s new old stock and it never really seems to have ever seen the light of day before this very moment which Is super cool. Super great unit, one in a million find!
