One-of-a-kind 2007 Tacoma built Guild F47 Brazilian. It is one of only a few known guitars created in 2007/8 with special woods and custom appointments, some of which were ultimately used in the 2011 New Hartford GSR run.

The neck angle is excellent with a straight edge coming to the top of the bridge. The action on the Low E is a low 5/64”.  The nut width is 1-23/32” with string spacing of 1.47” at the nut and 2-1/8” at the saddle. A strap button is on the bass side. Lower bout is 16” x 4-1/4” inches wide. Very comfortable to play sitting.

It is not a loud Guild. The tone is clear and balanced, and for lack of a better word “refined.” The note articulation is very even from string to string. It has a clean decay and light overtones. Finger picking is precise and strumming does not get muddy.

Custom Guild appointments on this guitar:

  • Brazilian Rosewood overlaid headstock with mother of pearl Guild logos.
  • Open back Gotoh's with custom ivory style tuners with G shield inlays.
  • Three-piece mahogany-walnut-mahogany neck with ivoroid binding.
  • Ebony fretboard with MOP block inlays and abalone G logo inlay at the 12th.
  • Straight grained red/Adi spruce top.
  • Old stock straight grained Brazilian rosewood back and sides.
  • Ebony bridge with “Parisian Eye” MOP dot bridge pins with gold ring inlays.
  • Carved compensated bone saddle, bone nut.
  • Thin profile abalone rosette.
  • Premium brown, green lined OHSC.

Known Issues and Improvements:

I received this with a gouge in the treble (down) side waist and a thin crack on the rear of the lower bout. They were not all the way through the wood, so to prevent further damage I had them both filled, leveled and NCL finished. They are stable and smooth, but visible. I’m not happy with repair finish to the gouge as there is noticeable white ghosting under the lacquer. However, I will leave it up to the next owner to decide if they want to have it redone or not.  See last 4-5 pictures.

It also came to me with a horrible replacement tiger striped plastic pick guard. That was removed and replaced by a custom Guild-shaped guard made from thick vintage tortoise celluloid.   It looks much nicer and proper now.

I had a complete professional set-up done that included dressing the frets and replacing the nut. The nut was too short with incorrect spacing of 1.40 for the 1-23/32 wide neck. A new longer bone nut was created to improve the string spacing to 1.47.  A small chip at the nut was filled but is visible.  This width is very comfortable for chording and picking.

Otherwise, the appearance is very good with light play wear and some finish checking near the base of the neck - see pic.

For reference here is similarly appointed F30R Brazilian that was gifted to Matt Uminov Guitars, as US retailer of the year at the 2008 NAMM show.
