From a family of master luthiers in Naples Italy dating back to 1825. There isn’t a lot on the internet about these guitars. Raffael Calace was a mandolin maker and started out with mandolins. Later, his son and grandson produced classical guitars and then steel string guitars after that.
This one plays and sounds really nice. I have had some repairs done professionally as this is a solid guitar not laminate and thus prone to cracking. There are several cracks on the top that have been cleated and the braces were not affected. There is a crack on the back of the headstock under the machine heads which has been repaired as well. The measurements are below:
Total length: 41″
Lower Bout: 15″
Upper Bout: 12″
Soundhole: 3 1/2″
Depth: 4″
Nut Width: 2″
Action at 12th fret is about 1/4″ and there is a little bit of saddle left which could be sanded down to lower this a little more.
I am listing this in good condition because of the playability and the fact it is over 60 years old. Top looks to be solid spruce and back and sides are maple. The fretboard is Brazilian Rosewood
