For sale: Kurzweil K2500. The beast. The monster. Even
though it's an older synth, almost nothing made today can touch it for
pure synthesizing power. From Vintage Synth Explorer:
"The K2500 is another evolution of the amazing Kurzweil Synthesizer - Workstations. Using their excellent V.A.S.T. synthesis and Sequencer this is truly an elegant synthesizer with a full keyboard of 76 semi-weighted keys, 8 real-time sliders, 2 ribbon controllers, pitch and mod wheels and total MIDI controllability. The amazing sounds are contained on 8MB of sample ROM, expandable to 28MB using optional sound ROM boards! A 32 track interactive song arranger is also on-board allowing you to create various and complex sequences and songs which can be triggered from a variety of sources. Add stereo outs, eight individual outs, dual SCSI ports, digital I/O and you've got yourself a professional 'Production Studio'."
"As a synthesizer, the K2500 is likely one of the most professional and superior instruments available. Very programmable, flexible and excellent sounding as you would expect from Kurzweil. The V.A.S.T. (Variable Architecture Synthesis Technology) has 60 DSP functions, 438 preset programs (238 ROM, 200 RAM) and is capable of amazingly realistic acoustic instruments and a diverse range of analog synth sounds and other unique sounds complete with multi-effects and real-time MIDI control."
It's been upgraded to the latest (and last) OS, v3.02. Additionally, I've added 64 Meg of Sample RAM, so you can put samples into the instrument and manipulate them. There is room for an additional 64 Meg of RAM should you so choose. No sampling option on this; why try to get good recordings yourself when they're so easily available from sampling CD's?
Most important, this instrument has the single most necessary option added- PRAM. There's a lot of confusion about the different RAM in the K2xxx series, so I'll quickly explain it here: The Sample RAM allows you to take pre-existing samples and load them into the synth, manipulate them, and play them back on the keyboard or from the sequencer. The PRAM option allows more programs and sequences to be saved in the instrument. The base synth allows for 200 Programs/Performances to be saved (that number drops if you put a ton of sequences into the synth) and the PRAM allows up to 1000 Programs/1000 Performances and sequences. (Again, that number drops if you put a ton of sequences into the synth.) This synth will come with only one sequence it in- Pink Floyd's "On the Run," which was created by Kurzweil tech Daniel Fisher to try to break the K2000 synth (this synth's predecessor) in testing. Not only couldn't he break the synth's programming architecture, he was hired by Pink Floyd, and his sequence (and Kurzweil synthesizers exclusively) were used for every subsequent Pink Floyd tour.
I've loaded the KB3 programs into it- excellent Hammond sounds, and there's thousands of programs that can be downloaded from the 'Net, over 1000 just on the Kurzweil website. It's still an amazing machine- the reason there's been no new Kx000 synth released in the last 15 years is because there's still nothing more powerful than these synths (specifically, the K2600) since it was released. The depth of programming and the sonic palette is unbelievable.
I will include the Performance Guide. I don't have the Reference Guide, but it can be downloaded from Kurzweil Music Systems in .PDF format.
This instrument has wooden endcaps on it. Yes, it adds a little to the weight, but those have always been fragile on the K2500/K2600 series. Here, you never have to worry about broken endcaps again.
All sales final, no returns, except for a 3-Day non-DOA warranty. I'm not a dealer: these are my own synths from my home studio, so I know that they all work, unless otherwise advertised.
