Damn! This guitar rips! Whether you are a full blooded shredder or not, anyone who picks this guitar up instantly knows they're holding a super nice instrument. This thing was made to play.
The serial number starts with a "B", and based on what I've learned it seems like that would put this guitar between 86-87. Kramer serial numbers and history is completely insane. No one seems to totally agree on the same story of Kramer. This one has the "Neptune, NJ" neck plate, and I have heard some people actually claim this era and model was made in the USA, but my instinct tells me that this guitar was made in Japan. I think it has all the tell-tale signs of a super well made Japanese guitar from the golden age of guitar production in Japan. I don't necessarily want to make a claim about where it was made, but the options of where it was made are either the USA or Japan and the early 80's were killer times for both of those countries for making guitars.
As an instrument, this guitar is awesome. It was obviously never really played, and it's in great playing and aesthetic condition. Neck is super straight, frets are almost like new, pickups sound seriously mind blowing fantastic, action is low and vibrant, Floyd Rose works perfectly and is dialed in really nicely, it's a killer guitar. For a shredder to be a shredder the neck has to be perfectly straight on both sides and the fretwork has to be perfect so that the strings can get as low as possible, and this one's totally healthy and awesome. This color is insane! Super vibrant and fun, and also super rare! Most of this model were colors that were straight up not as cool as this color lol. It's in super nice condition. There's a few scratches here and there, but it's overall a super clean guitar, especially for being 40 years old! All completely original (I added a trem spring), original trem bar and everything. A few screws are missing from the back plate, but other than everything is original and present!
What I love about this guitar is that it has a punk rock spirit just as much as a metal spirit. This guitar would be just as at home on stage with the Bad Brains as it would be with Iron Maiden. I grew up really into the bands from the 80's D.C. punk scene and I remember looking through zines and seeing Bad Religion rocking guitars with Floyd Roses trems. There's a punk spirit inside this guitar for sure.
I am not a shredder, but I work on them all the time and I think I finally got the hang of setting up a floating Floyd Rose trem! Took a few thousand tries but I think I finally mapped out the Floyd Rose DNA sequence. Like anything that was daunting and complex seeming, it seems so simple once you finally get it. It's about getting that perfect harmony between the strings and the springs. They gotta have the magic tension between each other. The Floyd Rose is kind of absent in indie rock, but when it is used there's some epic crossover sounds that happen. Issac Brock of Modest Mouse always used the Floyd Rose and got these epic seasick and unique tones, literally the Floyd Rose is the sound of early Modest Mouse. The dude from Sheer Mag (who are so awesome) uses a Floyd Rose Shredder, and White Reaper (also awesome) rock the Floyd Rose (I'm pretty sure). Those three bands represent a large portion of the uninhibited actual fun that occurs in indie rock, maybe it's no coincidence that they all rock the Floyd Rose lol.
This guitar totally kills, and that color is just so awesome. Great guitar!
