About This Listing

My dad bought this new in the early 1980s. It worked as recently as 2 years ago and I can verify that it turns on, but it may need some maintenance or servicing. Reverb is telling me these sell for about $500 or so in perfect working order, so I’ve lowered the price to include possible repair costs- though it may also not need anything. I can verify that the deck turns on.

This TEAC C-3X is a stereo cassette deck with Dolby B and DBX noise reduction with connectors for optional external DBX, DNL, Adres, Super-d, Dolby-C or High-ComII noise reduction systems, it was first sold by TEAC in 1980 with a manufacturer suggested retail price of USD $650 and discontinued a year later.

The main features of the TEAC C-3X are: 3 heads and off-tape monitoring, mechanical 3 digit tape counter, manual tape type selection and capable of handling normal, chrome and metal tapes with additional manual equalization selection, belt driven single-capstan transport.

Typical front loading cassette deck with the cassette compartiment located on the left side of the deck. Tape eject is operated mechanically and the cassette needs to be placed with the side to be played facing forward in the cassette well.

Level meters used on the C-3X are analog needle VU reading meters. Full-logic transport controls used on the C-3X let it respond to the slightest finger contact for fast and effortless transport function selection. 9,5 cm/s faster recording/playback speed used in the C-3X offers extended frequency response, increased dynamic range and transient response. C-3X.

To ensure the best response from the wide variety of tapes available adjustment of, bias and sensitivity, to optimum levels can be performed prior to recording.

The Dolby-B system reduces tape hiss on tapes recorded on the C-3X by as much as 10 dB at the highest frequencies. Dbx Type II found in the C-3X is a simplified version of the Type I noise reduction system. The dbx Type II system was designed to be used with systems with limited bandwidth such as cassette based recorders and also uses a simple 2:1:2 compander to reduce noise.

To make live recordings this deck has 2 microphone inputs to connect microphones with a jack connector. For undisturbed listening a jack connector for a pair of stereo headphones is supplied. Connection to other audio components for plaback can be achieved by a RCA cable and recording from a source by a RCA cable. All main transport commands can be issued remotely with a wired remote control (not included)
