This is prob the best, if not one of the best TR's that you will ever play, and belongs in a studio. Very rare, only one in existence, so this will continue to go up in value. Recent amp tech told me this was one of, if not THE best TR he has ever played period, even better than some of the Bloomfield Drive amps he has worked on, "this does the "Dumble Thing, you just can't get a bad sound out of this amp".

I bought this amp directly from Chad Mangrum (One of the two designers of this amp). This is the original prototype for the amp that would become the Bi-Onyx, built on a Onyx Chassis by Chad Mangrum and Bill Krinard around 2012. According to discussions with Chad, the Bi-Onyx was to replace the Custom Reverb as the Flag Ship, and at the time was the most expensive amp to build. I bought this amp directly from Chad, then asked him to soften the front end up, making it more like the Custom Reverb V2/3. I also asked him to add Dual Tube Rectifiers, as well as the ability to switch between Fixed and Cathode Bias. I also asked him to remove the ability to run EL34's and 6L6, and make it a dedicated 6L6 amp.

As Chad states:

"Put in a new power transformer to add tube rectifiers. Additional mods will be to remove the output tube switch and replace with a fixed/Cathode biased switch. Also will reduce the stiffness of the power supply and adjust the fixed bias supply to have a bit more bounce. I pulled some of the resistors we used at that time period and replaced with softer carbon film types that we used in the early amps. This mellowed out the overall top end of the signal. Other then those things it was kept pretty stock to what it was. Which was the prototype for the Bi-Onyx."

In addition to the above, I wanted some additional flexibility at lower volumes in the amp so I sent to Mark Kane (Kanewreck Amps) due to his Dumble/Trainwreck clone experience, for the following:

1) Add Pentode/Triode Switch.

2) Add Hi Filter Cut switch on the back, three positions, middle normal, down 1 level cut, up 2 level cut.

3) Reversed the way the Contour knobs work, turning clockwise now rolls off the highs.

4) Reduce the "buzzyness" of the drive channel when the gain is up above 2 o'clock.

All of the above was designed to smooth out the amp at lower volumes for small clubs and rehearsals. Larger gigs, amp just kills at full power, and filter in Normal position, but now the amp really smokes at lower levels, adding incredible versatility. This by far the smoothest Two Rock that I have ever played. I have decided to go back to using Plexi's with a pedalboard, which is the only reason I am very reluctantly selling.

This is hands down the best TR I've ever played. Super clear on the normal channel, and incredible smooth distortion/overdrive on the "Hot" channel.  This amp, due to it's rarity, and custom build by Chad and Bill, will become a true collectors piece of Two Rock History.

Includes custom Studio Slips Cover and Foot Pedal: Clean, Clean Boost, Lead, Lead Boost.
