I bought this amp the moment I saw one for sale. It took almost a year to find one and it's everything I read it would be in Tone Quest Report. I haven't seen anything but combos for sale since. This is NOT the same as the older Zinky MOFO. And, I only plugged it in once and haven't since as I was intending to do a YouTube review and shootout with all my favorite amps. YouTube changed their payment program to pay nothing until around 100k views, so I quit.
This amp is pretty close to MINT and works perfectly.
$1499, Price is pretty firm. I won't respond to much less. Someone looking for this will be happy with the price, so DON'T make offers 20% lower than asking and expect me to take any action.
This amp is really great for metal with its really tight and deep bass. Country to Blues to Rock to Metal sounds great with this amp. It was designed and built by Bruce Zinky formerly of Zinky Electronics. He made a Zinky MOFO but updated the MOFO amp to this superior version when he acquired the Supro brand.
Zinky is also worked for Fender and designed their greatest modern amp, the Vibro-King. This MOFO has some similarities in sound and I find it better for hard rock and doesn't waste space and weight with what I found to be a weak reverb in the Vibro-King, nothing like a the original Fender reverb tank it was supposed to sound like.
Supro's rundown of the Supro MOFO:
1. Clean channel has midrange switch - "cut" or "boost", instead of just one fixed mid.
2. The MOFO channel has reduced gain if you turn the gain knob lower than 9...So gain keeps doing something all the way up, and you can now use it more effectively as a clean channel at lower gain settings.
3. Instead of the Retro/MOFO gain switch on the original amp, there is an additional gain reduction/boost that you can activate with a front panel switch or the footswitch. This gives you a boost at any time, on either channel so you now get two sounds on the Clean and 2 sounds on the MOFO channel. It comes with a two button footswitch, clean/overdrive, and low/high gain - 4 tones!
And the big difference...the power amp is the old Supro design but with grid bias. This is/was a circuit that was developed by the Western Electric folks in the 1930s and used by Supro from the 40s to the 60s. We fine tuned it a little. Instead of 60 Watts (old circuit), this one delivers 72! That's not the big deal though... There's a lot more power at the low end, and the high end extends much higher with this one (Glassy top end, without any fizzy or buzzy sounds). Because of this, we felt in only fitting that we re-introduce the amp, this time as a SUPRO®. So, you pretty much get a MOFO that sounds a lot better at low volumes and it will play louder / bigger than before.
