SCORPION BASS
The Scorpion Bass might look out of place
next to the other reissue Burns Basses (Bison and Marquee models), but this is
also in fact a recreation of a Burns bass from yesteryear. Ths original
Scorpion Bass was launched in 1979 and clearly shows that Burns were aiming at
a younger and “angrier” type of bass player. Heavy Metal was born
around these days, and the Scorpion bass fitted right in.
To obtain the maximum punch, Burns chose a
standard 34″ scale for this bass.
Electronics are maybe more straightforward
than other Burns models, with the tried and tested P/J pickup arrangement,
controlled by 1 Master Volume, 2 Tones and 1 three way Telecaster type lever
switch. Of course there is a hidden plus: a mini-switch to connect both pickups
out of phase, producing a thin and nasal effect, perfect for guitar-like parts
and as an effect too for intros, etc.

From England to the world. Jim Burns created the Burns company in
the 60’s as a true alternative to American instruments. Instead of just making
lesser copies of famous US guitars, Burns had his own ideas about how a guitar
should look, perform and sound.
The highly acclaimed band The Shadows used
Burns instruments exclusively for years, helping spread the name of these
instruments.
The Burns guitar company has gone through
all types of stages, and have closed and reopened several times.
Right now this brand is enjoyning a lot of
success, and offer instruments just for everyone, from the top of the range
British made Club and Club Elite series to the more affordable Korean made Club
series, to which the bass you see here belongs.
Special attention has been payed in this
series to reproduce the all important details that made Burns instruments so
unique.
This model belongs in the CLUB
SERIES, which means these are the most affordable Burns in the
range. But don’t be fooled by the low price: what you get is a fully.
