G&L LB-100 Bass Fullerton Red w/ Satin Frost Left Handed

Reintroduced from an earlier Leo Fender/G&L era, the LB-100 ("Leo's
Bass") is G&L's most iconic bass configuration, the LB-100 respects
the past but moves forward with thoughtful improvements and broad range
of tones. With classic styling, and G&L build quality, the LB-100
gives traditionalists a true taste of the G&L experience.

There's
no mistaking where the LB-100 is coming from, but given that Leo Fender
was also the founder of G&L, you can certainly cut them a little
slack. This LB-100 has a nicely contoured and balanced alder body with a
satin top coat Fullerton Red finish. The satin top coat mutes the
glossy sheen giving the guitar somewhat of a vintage look without being
aged (and never shows fingerprints). Combined with the cream pickguard and vintage tint neck, there is a definite retro-vibe.

Tested through our gigging rig -- BBE Bmax preamp, Carvin DCM1000L power amp and Carvin 4x10
Bass Cab -- the LB-100 surprised us with a bright, piano like tone that
we'd more expect out of a Jazz bass. The G&L-made Alnico 5 pickup
has a nice wide response, and even with its central mounting location
provided an ample amount of high end content. Overall character was
round and full, with a broad response that feels open and spacious.
Although sporting just passive volume and tone controls, we were able to
dial in our groove pretty quickly, and then vary the tone and attack by
varying finger or pick attack.

Elsewhere, typical G&L design details are evident: Plek'd neck, Aluminum tuning pegs to reduce headstock
weight and improve balance, neatly wired controls with full-sized pots,
and G&L's substantial and fully adjustable saddle lock bridge.

The
LB-100 is not fancy or complex, but is neatly executed and solidly
built with top-notch hardware and materials. The result is a big,
natural sounding instrument that can slot into almost any playing
situation or style of music. When you get the fundamentals right, you
don't need a lot of bells and whistles.
