About This Listing

BOLIN NS

John Bolin and Ned Steinberger.

2003

A most incredible and innovative modern guitar.

“Simply Amazing”

NOTE: Buy one of these incredible guitars now before they become too expensive. These are headed to legendary status with increasingly higher prices.

Take JOHN BOLIN, the design genius who is always “predictability unpredictable”, and Ned Steinberger, the sound tech “extraordinaire” and put them in a shop with instructions to “create a really cool guitar that is beautiful, innovative, sounds amazing, and plays so smoothly that players will never want to put it down” and you will get what they have already created back in 2003: The BOLIN NS guitar.

A review of the BOLIN NS, in the February 2003 issue of Guitar Buyer, by the guitar playing genus MICK TAYLOR, called it a “stunning new collaboration between Ned Steinberger and John Bolin” showing “proof positive that all is well in the world of guitar innovation”. That review is attached here. It’s a bit hard to read but I will include a copy of it with the guitar.

These are a few of Mick’s observations:

1.     “It’s a sleek and slender all-rounder whose simplicity belies a whole bunch of tonal surprises”.

2.     “There’s little doubt that the BOLIN NS is distinctive.”

3.     “The NS is supremely comfortable to hold, either standing or sitting.”

4.     “The peghead is a corker.” (“corker” meaning “very good”)

5.     “The neck is rock maple, profiled to a skinny-ish C section, remarkably comfortable and finished with a light satin lacquer for super smooth movement.”

6.     Neck is “bolted on with a new unique design where the two lower screws attach to the flat underside neck pocket, while the upper two go in at any angle, creating a more rigid connection,” which “helps the guitar’s overall brilliance and sustain”.

7.     “Ebony fretboard with 22 medium frets” that are “fitted and finished flawlessly, which pretty much sums up the build of the entire guitar”.

8.     “Sensibly understated in the looks department”.

9.     “Schaller 3-D6 fixed bridge”.

10.“Sperzel locking tuners…add a modern visual edge to the Bolin”. (banjo style side fitting).

11.“..brace of Seymour Duncan humbuckers, Jeff Beck at the bridge and ’59 at the neck”

12.“a Master volume and dual-concentric bass and treble pot that goes into a beefy active preamp. “

13.“…has the spank of a Fender, yet with much more Gibson-style meat”.

14.“The alder/maple/bolt-on neck combination assures a bright and resonant acoustic tone with plenty of highs, and full, clear bass.”

15.“..there’s no arguing that the Bolin NS is a superb guitar.”

16.“It boasts innovation in design, commendable build quality and addictive playability”.
