This is an extremely rare & collectable ribbon microphone. The Torpedo was made by Steanes Sound Systems in Melbourne, Australia about 1945-46.
The microphone is in excellent condition overall and comes on a beautiful cast iron stand. The chrome finish has some minor scratches and ageing but overall it is in amazing condition for its age. The microphone is functional and comes with a short XLR cable connection.
Beautiful microphone for a collectors piece / display or to get some great vintage tones of yesteryear. This is a go to microphone for that vintage vibe. Definitely a winner for a certain favour for vocals. Great on stringed instrument - Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo etc and a decent Drum room mic too. Big and smooth sounding with a real vintage mojo!
Steanes (Steanes Sound Systems) was located in Melbourne, Australia and manufactured audio equipment from the 1930's to till the mid 50's. Very little is known about the company and there is hardly an info on the net.
