This SG model has become a rarity, particularly difficult to find as it was only produced for one year from 2007 into 2008.
Part of the "Faded" series of instruments, this SG features a Satin Hand Worn Ebony nitrocellulose lacquer finish, alnico humbuckers, and the quality you expect from a genuine USA-made Gibson. The trio of 490R and 490T humbuckers have plenty of power and punch and delivering crisp cleans as well. Via the 6-way rotary pickup selector switch, this SG has a level of versatility not typically afforded a triple pickup model, offering bridge, bridge/middle, middle, middle/neck, and bridge/neck pickup combinations.
This SG weighs in at just 6lbs 6oz, balances well on a strap, and has a really prominent acoustic voice that translates well through the pickups.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a fairly slender '60s-style C shaped profile with just enough roundness in the shoulders to feel both substantial and fast. The original vintage-style frets retain their full factory height,
The nut width is a full 1 11/16". On the headstock, the Gibson Deluxe Kluson-style tuning machines turn very smoothly, hold pitch well, and have classic vintage appeal with lightly greened tulip buttons.
The faded series have a very thin and soft nitro finish on them and a unique tone because of it.
Power. Tone. Versatility.
The SG Special Faded 3 Pickup guitar offers real performance with three screaming 490 humbuckers, the same pickups offered on the top of the line Les Paul Supreme for example and gives guitarists an unbelievable tonal spectrum to play with. A master volume and master tone dial in the options presented by the versatile 6-position selector with its 'Chicken Head' style switch knob Choose from bridge, bridge/middle, middle, middle/neck, or bridge/neck pickup combinations.
This SG has real character with the well-worn, well-played look of your favorite old Gibson. The thin finish has worn away the edges and on the top of the front which gives it real naturally roadworn mojo.
