UPDATE! NOT DRY Z PICKUPS. I have been informed this version of the mr1000 was pre-dryZ so its a maxon model close to the super70. Regardless they sound great. Very PAF-ish, not as neutral as my 70s SG T-Tops but similar output and more midrange focus. Good for different stuff. These make me think ZZ top, my SG pickups make me think Zep IV :-)
Early Mick Ralphs signature by Greco. MIJ lawsuit era original design. Kissing cousin of the ibanez artist series. Model MR1000 or perhaps a very upscale MR800? Mott the Hoople, Bad Company :-) 24 fret dark rosewood or maybe ebony fingerboard. 2 piece all mahogany pancake (look at the grain, they don't grow that big anymore) with a 1 piece maple plain top. Hand cut body binding that's very attractive. Gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Original electronics sound and perform like new, pickups are maxon low output alnico PAF copies that have that elusive ghost tone when driving a vintage british amplifier. I almost stole them out before listing, but it would be a crime to change anything on this axe! Pigtail type wrap bridge. Over fret, fret edge binding, you know, the gibson nibs. Vintage small fret wire but not the wide low 70s gibson type. 60s gibsonfrets. Slim taper neck profile and the late 60s thinner width nut. Norlin type volute. Decent japanese grover imperial style tuners. This guitar sounds great and plays well but is a bit small for me and I never play it anymore.
The guitar has a little wear and some tiny hazing and scratching on the finish in spots. The control cavity cover never had the paper removed by the original owner and it fused on. I left it because it was charming. It could use a setup but I'll leave that to you. As is it plays well with medium action and a pretty straight neck. The bridge has seen better days and you might consider replacing it with a modern tonepros or something.
Once belonged to an S. Cho. The O monogram fell off the case recently LOL. Rescued from a rural pawn store a decade ago where it was languishing with crust strings in the back.
Someone should play this guitar. I almost never pick it up any more unless I need the most vintage sounding LP tone possible.... someone give it a more loving home. This guitar should be someone's number 1.
Feel free to email with questions. I've provided detailed pictures and a youtube tone demo for your amusement. this is a very well made guitar. Only reasonable offers will be entertained. The guitar would also like to go to a home with a vintage marshall or vox.... it told me.
Shipping to continental USA only.
