Up for your consideration & buying pleasure is a Beautiful 1950s Slingerland “Radio King“ Solid Blue Duco Lacquer Snare Drum.
A very rare finish and desirable Model, this RK has the 3-point strainer with a simple butt plate design. No extended bridges makes this model very unique.
This snare drum shell has the 50’s rounded Bearing Edge RK design with heavy rigid reinforcing hoops.
Also, the interior ply is Beautiful African Mahogany with a very rich Grain.
Some collectors refer to this snare as the “Buddy Rich Model.” Buddy preferred a simple 3-point strainer with string design and simple butt plate.
However, the first Buddy Rich model Radio King cataloged, technically has 16-small beaver tail lugs and was 6.5 or 7 x14“, very similar to the “Hollywood Ace Model.” Later on Slingerland also added this Center Lug “Buddy Rich” model to their Catalog.
This RK Snare Drum is Sporting the original 50s Black & Gold Made In Chicago USA Badge. A Nice Tight original factory installed grommet.
In addition, this R.K.snare is in great condition and completely original with new Remo plastic drum heads. A very nice 3-Ply Mahogany, Poplar & Maple Shell. Modern Remo Drum heads go on with ease,
This Vintage finish is a Rare Solid Blue Duco Lacquer that was seldom cataloged. Very few of these drums were made with this antique finish.
This finish is “old school” Blue Lacquer that gives the appearance of an Antique Finish. The exterior has a great aged pattern, aged Old Lacquer, very vibrant. Also, this finish has a beautiful color tone to a deep dark coloration.
The Seam is very tight and solid. This unique finish has very few light scratches as you would expect for a drum this old. But, overall the finish is still very vibrant and excellent. Most of these finishes turn brittle and green after time. But, this drum & finish has been well cared for.
Again, These finishes are very hard to find, especially On Radio King Snare Drums.

The shell construction is 5.5”x14”. This RK has the
3-Ply, Shell with Solid Maple reinforcing hoops.
Many Radio Kings where made with the 3-Ply shell.
This drum is equipped with the full flanged Chrome over Brass “Sound King” rims.
These hoops are the highly desirable
“Slingerland Modern Radio Kings on the top & Bottom. The bottom rim is full flanged design with the rectangular snare gate opening.
All remaining hardware is Chrome Plated as well.
The 8-centered Modern Sound King Lugs are Beautifully Crafted in Art Deco design and fashion. All lugs are in great working condition. There is Slight typical wear, but all hardware is excellent.
No cracks or major fatigue.
The throw-off is the desirable
3-Point Strainer that works and functions beautifully!
A very nice Slingerland simple design Butt Plate, functions perfectly.
No muffler is installed
Original Slingerland 16-Strand snare wires are installed.
This Drum has that great Radio King sound, wonderful dynamic response, with great warm sensitivity & tonality, cutting through all band instruments.
