As a collector, I get to enjoy being my own best customer. Like with this KAY K300.

Having been a teenager in the 1960’s and a music lover, every guitar I see from this period brings back loads of good memories (a guitar always makes good memories, right?).

This one came from 1965. I would have absolutely loved to have been able to buy one of these back then.  But every dollar I earned cropping tobacco and cutting grass, was needed to buy books for my upcoming fall at college (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC).

Thankfully, 50 years later I was able to buy one. Then another. Plus, one more. And then two more. And more to make a dozen. I love these guitars.

This one came to me in pieces (“Bits and Pieces”-DC5).

So, I entrusted these bits and pieces to Kevin Smith from TONESMITH Guitars with the simple request: Make me happy. And boy did he do that. Look at this guitar in its new glory. Totally cool new old “sunburst” finish.

Has two “speed hump” pickups, the “cool ones” and it sounds great. This is one of my favorite “player guitars”. It’s solid body resonates forever. Tone is clear and strong.

Again, this one has been totally restored by Kevin Smith.
