About This Listing

Spring reverbs were an early attempt to create electronic reverb audio effects without requiring an actual large space or echo chamber. While their sound might not be very natural, its unique characteristics have gathered a big following among musicians. Spring reverbs are also relatively small and affordable.

The SPRINGREVERB module is an interface for typical external spring reverb tanks, which are also used in guitar amplifiers:

A tank is obligatory and a mid-sized version, like the one pictured above, can be purchased together with the module from the . It connects to the module via a 3.5mm TRS to stereo RCA cable.

Other reverb tanks and sizes are available at various places online and offer different sound characteristics, for example longer or shorter reverb times.

Module power consumption: 5 mA, 14 mA as complete set with spring-tank

Inputs

  • IN - audio signal input

Outputs

  • OUT - dry/wet mix audio signal output
  • WET - wet-only audio signal output

Controls

  • INPUT - audio signal input volume
  • FEEDBACK - dials in audio feedback for additional reverb time and distortion
  • DRY / WET - mix between the dry (unaffected) input signal and the wet (fully affected) reverb signal

Patch Suggestions

- The WET output can be used to further process the reverb signal. For example you can send it through a filter module to reduce high or low frequencies, or you can route it through a VCA (modulated by an envelope) to reduce the reverb time. Since different reverb tanks can also sound very different, having this option is important to fine tune or even radically change the audio effect. Afterwards you need to mix the processed reverb signal back with the audio input signal using a mixer module.

- Reverb tanks are usually open on one side or they can be easily opened to reveal the springs. Touching, tapping, plucking or altering the springs changes the reverb sound and can be used creatively.
