About This Listing
Here’s a nice old Kay tenor banjo made in late 40’s or early 50’s. This is the Professional model which was Kay’s top of the line at the time. Nice heavy flange, mahogany rim and resonator, I believe the neck is maple. Bound fretboard, KayKraft style headstock, 19 fret model, original geared tuners. The calfskin head is in nice shape, new nylon strings.
This old thing has a great tone with plenty of ring to it. Nice low action, good bridge, frets are in great shape. Does have a very slight bow in the beck but doesn’t appear to effect playability. The calfskin head and “Nylgut” strings give it a nice old-timey sound.
I’ve really been enjoying playing this but I guess I have one too many banjos so this ones gotta go.
Please let me know if you have any questions or would like additional photos. Thanks
