About This Listing

Here is a used (with visible wear - works fine / works as it should) BOSS OD-2 TURBO OverDrive (from 1994 - which is the last year that it was in production) overdrive / distortion effect pedal.

Made in TAIWAN.

Sorry NO box, NO paperwork, and NO battery.

Here is a link for the Owners Manual:

roland.com/assets/media/pdf/OD-2_OM.pdf

The pedal was definitely used and each side of the casing has many visible imperfections from use and from age. I would say that it has a little more than average wear (but your opinion might differ).

Works fine (works as it should). Specifics detail are provided below.

The pedal is about 26 year old.

All Original.

No Longer Made /// Collectible

According to the stompbox zone box serial number decoder: stompboxzone.com/decoder/

Entered Serial: JF85280  -- Your pedal was made in Jan, 1994 (January 1994)

The pedal was tested and works fine (works the way it is designed to work).  But  -- read info below:

NOTE: There is small sticker near the power jack that would say USE BOSS ACA ADAPTOR ONLY. Which means that this pedal was designed to be used with a 12V, negative center, about 300 mA power supply.

NOTE: When this pedal is used with a 9 volt power supply  - the LED light lights up very dim (light up faintly- the light is hardly visible).  Lights up fine when used with a battery.

NOTE:

Since this pedal was originally designed to be used with a Boss ACA power supply (which is 12v) - when you use a regular 9v negative tip power supply - the pedal works, but the LED light will light up very dim (light up faintly) - or - it might not light up. For the OD-2 pedal in this listing- the light lights up very faintly (hardly visible). But you can hear when the effect is on and when it if off.

There is nothing wrong with the pedal.  If a 12 volt, negative tip, barrel end power supply is used - then the light will light up.

Please let me know (message me) if you would like to purchase a lightly used NON Boss / NON Roland 12V, negative center power supply, 500 mA, barrel end power supply.  Additional cost  -- Price $12. (The shipping / packaging cost will not increase if the power supply is purchased.

** Lights up fine when used with a battery **

According to Roland / Boss:  "Powering ACA pedals with a PSA power supply":

Powering the older pedals designed for 12V DC input with either a newer ACA or PSA adapter will not work very well. The voltage drop over the resistor and diode will prevent the pedal from getting enough power and its LED will usually only glow faintly. The solution is to use a daisy chain and plug in another pedal designed for the newer ACA or PSA adapter. The lead between the two pedals will short the resistor diode pair and the pedal will receive full power."

This pedal is about 26 years old and it was definitely used -- therefore - it has a lot of imperfections and aging.

EACH SIDE of the casing has visible imperfections:  There are several nicks in the finish (some are also on the surface) - various sizes, several chips (various sizes), and several short scratches & several medium length scratches (most are in the finish and some are in the surface).

The rubber on the top has hardened from age & from use. and it has some surface wear from age and use.  It also has some wear around the edges and on the BOSS logo.

Top black plate (where the controls are):  It has a couple of nicks and scratches (some of the silver metal is exposed in a few areas). And it has a few very small  and tiny dot impressions.

The small label on the back side that says "USE BOSS ACA ADAPTOR ONLY negative center" has some nicks and two of the corners are lifting up a little and it has some discoloration.

KNOBS:  Are generally  fine (not 100% perfect). The top areas have one or more of the following type of imperfections:  tiny nicks, very short scratches light scuffs.

The nuts and washers of the jacks are generally fine - just a couple of tiny nicks.

The power jack has light surface scuffs and a few tiny nicks.

The screws - for some of the screws - the black finish has some wear and some fading.

The rubber on the bottom  has visible wear . It has some surface scuffs, it has hardened from age, and it has wear around the edges. The  mid / upper area of the right side has a not to bog / not to small rectangle shaped impression with short vertical dashes.

The bottom label is generally fine for its age (not perfect). It just has a couple of tiny & very small nicks, a couple of tiny and very small bumps, a few very short creases (that are more like nicks), and some very shot and short line impressions.

The small label / sticker with the serial number has a few nicks on the edges.

The grommet (the small rubber piece in the front screw hole) has several short hair-line cracks, it has stretched out, it probably is inner cracks too. Also - it has hardened a a little and it a little gummy from age and from use.

The front black thumbscrew has a couple of tiny nicks and light surface scuffs.

The controls are: LEVEL, TONE, DRIVE, TURBO (OFF / ON)

The jacks are: Input, Output, and Power.

Sorry to repeat myself:

NOTE:  since this pedal was originally designed to be used with a Boss ACA power supply (which is 12v) - when you use a regular 9v negative tip power supply - the pedal works, but the light lights up very faintly or it does not light up).  There is nothing wrong with the pedal.  If a 12 volt negative tip power supply is used - then the light will light up.

I took pictures of all sides of this pedal.

NOTE: There are some imperfections that can be seen in person that do not appear in the pictures. There may be some imperfections that I overlooked. And - there maybe some imperfections show up in the pictures that are not that visible in person (like glares and dust specks.

the following is information on this model pedal:

Boss OD-2 TURBO OverDrive

The OD-2 was created as a replacement for the OD-1 in the mid 1980s. The OD-1 was already legendary so following up to it was in impossible task. The design goal was to create a pedal with two modes. In mode one its sound should be similar to the OD-1 but in the turbo mode it should have more distortion and more gain. A tone control is included to give the user better control over the sound. The OD-2 is built using only discrete components (no integrated circuits).

The OD-2 production moved from Japan to Taiwan late 1988. After the production was discontinued, 1994, the pedal continued its life as the slightly modified OD-2R for another 4 years.
