Hofner President 1959 brunette

This is an absolutely beautiful original Hofner President dating from early 1959. Made in Germany this has a sunburst finish (known as Brunette) with fully bound body, neck, headstock and soundholes and with the original tortoiseshell scratchplate.

There are two black rectangular pickups with rounded ends - these were used from 1957 to 1960; together with the control panel containing two volume controls plus switches, and all working.

This, being a pre 1960 model has no truss rod but the neck is straight, and the rosewood fingerboard contains 22 frets with triple mother-of-pearl dot markers. The headstock also has beautiful mother-of-pearl inlays as well as the original three on a side tuners.

The back of the body is a two piece back with matching wood graining, and is unmarked. The label inside the body dates it as early 1959.

This is a collectors guitar and actually it came from a small private collection to my collection. It is with its original hardcase which is also in a reasonably good condition. The only thing that is not as it should be is that the Frequensator tailpiece has two of its ends broken so the previous owner has drilled it to take the two strings differently - it works fine and the tailpiece could be replaced if required.

Not only is this a beautiful looking guitar but it plays really well too, so this is a very rare opportunity to obtain a great guitar, now fifty-seven years old.
