EVH's Legendary Chorus Effect

To achieve his legendary chorus effect on songs like "(Oh) Pretty Woman" and "Little Guitars," Eddie Van Halen relies on an equally legendary chorus pedal. MXR's EVH 5150 Chorus captures the sound of that classic effect with features tailored for modern rigs. A simple 3-knob layout makes this pedal a breeze to use. Input and Output Level switches optimize your signal-to-noise performance and achieve unity throughput gain. You also get switchable true/buffered bypass operation and Mono and Stereo outputs. Whether you use it to inject your playing with texture and dimension or combine it with high-gain tones for a way-huge sound, the 5150 Chorus is a pedalboard essential.

MXR pedals are an essential part of Eddie's tone

From the subtle phase sweeping on "Atomic Punk" and "Ain't Talking Bout Love" to the seasoned flanging on "And the Cradle Will Rock..." and "Unchained," MXR pedals are all over Eddie Van Halen's most famous riffs. So what's Eddie's fascination with MXR? According to the man himself, "MXR pedals are very solidly built. They always do what they’re supposed to do, and they never falter." MXR pedals are a key part of Eddie's tone, and the proof is on his pedalboard — it's packed with MXR!

THE LONG STORY The EVH 5150 Chorus is based on a legendary chorus unit that Eddie used to add texture and dimension to some of his most classic recordings from the early 1980s. It has a simple three-knob setup—Volume, Tone, and Intensity—with Input and Output Level pad switches, mono and stereo outputs, and an internal True/Buffered Bypass switch for modern rig flexibility. Combine this pedal with the 5150 Overdrive for a huge sound that’s thick and chewy.
