Up for sale, a 1995 Gibson Thunderbird IV Limited Edition bass in excellent condition and in perfect working order. An exceedingly rare model designed faithfully to vintage spec, this Gibson is essentially the successor to the Bicentennial model, featuring neck through construction, nickel hardware, a three-point bridge, and warm Tobacco Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer finish. The two imposing T Bird pickups with nickel surrounds deliver a tone with the kind of push and compression that brings out the growl in the all mahogany construction. A thick slab ebony fretboard adds top end detail and note attack, and the roundwound strings on the full 34" scale accentuate the rich, aggressive tendencies of the Thunderbird design. The bass weighs 9lbs 5oz with zero neck dive thanks to the low profile Schaller-made tuning machines. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Thunderbird is ready for stage and studio use with comfortable action, accurate intonation, and fresh 45-105 roundwound strings.
The neck has a slender C shape at the nut, filling out with more roundness and generous shoulder as you travel up the ebony fretboard, measuring .820" at the 1st fret and .975" at the 12th. The vintage-spec frets show virtually no wear, with well-rounded crowns and easy playability in every register. The nut measures 1 1/2" in width, and the headstock retains the original Gibson-branded truss rod cover as well as the Gibson-branded and Schaller-made nickel tuning machines. A Limited Edition badge is present at the headstock joint.
The electronics all function as intended, with untouched wiring and individual Volume controls for each pickup paired with a Master Tone. The nickel pickup covers, pickup surrounds, and bridge studs shows uniform surface patina, while the replacement three-point bridge and the aftermarket covers have nigh spotless chrome plating. On the gloss nitro lacquer Tobacco Sunburst finish there is very little wear to report, with an isolated spot of light buckle rash on the back of the bass side upper bout along with a few additional scattered shallow nicks on the body as a whole. There is also strum wear on the bass side of the pick path between the pickups and across the pickguard forward of the neck pickup.
This particular Thunderbird IV reissue is a virtually unseen example of a very limited run model, professionally setup and ready to be played.
The original brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case is included.
