The Claw Lock Resonator improves instrument sustain, frequency response, tuning stability, and expands electronic ground. Guitars employing the Claw Loc Resonator have improved frequency coupling though out instrument’s octave ranges making it more impactful in the mix. The resonator plate and spring locking claw add 2.2 oz.of mass to core of instrument, where it is most needed. The mass addition and enhanced mechanical coupling between vibrating strings and instrument body are responsible for these audible improvements. Decades of development have been invested in tremolo bridge technologies but the spring cavity has remained unreviewed since the 1950's until now.

The Claw Loc Resonator kit includes - 1)Resonator plate - CNC cut, tapped, and engraved from 6160 aluminum

2)Spring Locking Claw - CNC shaped and tapped from 6160

                                                              3)All required stainless steel fasteners

                                                              4)Installation instructions

Specs: Resonator plate - 3 5/8" long x 2" wide x 1/8" thick (NOTE: To insure fit; make sure your guitar's spring cavity is 3 5/8" long or more)

                                                              Locking Claw - 7/16" tall x 2" wide x 1" long x 1/8" thick

                                                              Total kit weight - 2.2oz

NOTE: IF YOUR GUITAR HAS A SMALLER SPRING CAVITY THAN STANDARD I CAN REDUCE SIZE OF RESONATOR PLATE AT THE TOP, OPPOSITE END OF ENGRAVING, 1/2" smaller to 3 1/8” in length UPON A EMAIL REQUEST. Resonator Plate will then have 4 locking position instead of 5.

Issues, improvements, and development history of the Claw Loc Resonator: In the traditional fulcrum tremolo system the bridge fulcrum point screws and the spring retaining claw screw heads are the most significant resonance pathways for vibrating string's energy into guitar body and neck. The connection between tremolo tensioning springs and claw provides minimum mechanical coupling for string sound wave energy to pass, a more efficient resonant pathway for vibrating string's energy into guitar body and neck was needed and the chief design objective.

The first generation of the Claw Loc Resonator saw the development of the “Resonator Plate”, that first system utilized a standard Fender(TM) claw with two machined slots for coupling to resonator plate. The design improvements realized were:

A.) The expansion of claw's transfer area for vibrating string's energy into guitar body and neck via compression coupling to "Resonator Plate"

B.) Adding of mass to most significantly important area of guitar; its core.

C.) Preventing claw movement when tremolo system activation occurred increasing tuning stability.

D.) Expanded electronics grounding plain.

E.) Improved physical appearance of guitar tremolo cavity.

The second generation introduced the "Spring Locking Claw" which greatly enhanced the primary design intention, string coupling with guitar body and neck. That two-part system proved to:

A.) Provide greatly expanded mechanical coupling between the face of claw and the tremolo springs.

B.) Springs compression lock to claw face via screws and washers.

C.) Expanded mechanical coupling between claw and resonator plate.

D.) Adding additional mass to guitar core over and above that of flanged steel claw.

E.) Prevents movement between claw and springs when tremolo system is activated, improving tuning stability.

F.) Further expanded electronics grounding plain.

G.) Additional improvement to physical appearance of tremolo spring cavity

Feed back from Phil in Oregon:

After 30 years of playing guitars with tremolos, I have tried them all and have never found one able to match the sustain of a guitar with a fixed bridge. When I first saw the Claw Loc Resonator I was very intrigued. Working on the same principle as adding sustain to the guitar by using a larger Tremolo block the resonator seemed much more efficient in it's design. A guitar gets the majority of it's sound from the center piece of wood on the guitar. Unfortunately a Tremolo unit takes away most of that wood and that affects your sustain and tone. The resonator plate screws directly to the body adding mass back to the body and the Spring claw mounts directly to the plate providing a direct connection for vibration of the strings to resonate through the guitar.

The installation was very easy. No modifications required. It mounts in the spring cavity of your guitar with six screws and is unseen once replacing the back cover.
After installing and tuning my guitar I played an open E chord. I was amazed at the increase in vibration I could feel in the neck with my left hand. The vibration of the strings through the guitar was greatly amplified. I also noticed the response of my Tremolo unit improved. By having the spring claw directly mounted to the resonator plate it avoids any movement of the claw and allows all energy to transfer to the springs and tremolo. The "Flutter" of my Tremolo bar (quick flip of bar) was much more defined and precise.

I then plugged into my amp and WOW! Sustain and harmonic overtones greatly improved. My guitar had sounded better than I ever heard. Sustain is no longer "Pauls" Domain. The Claw-Loc is a low cost, very easy modification I would highly recommend for any guitarist who uses a spring based Tremolo unit.

Happy Jamming!
