***THIS LISTING WILL END ON DEC. 31st, AS I AM RETIRING FROM A CAREER IN PLAYING MUSIC & REPAIRING INSTRUMENTS & NO LONGER DOING CONSIGNMENTS. THANKS!***
For sale is a hand-made-in-USA short-scale bass (guitar players prefer a
more-familiar scale), by a local builder here in Anderson, Indiana. The builder
is a superb woodworker & guitarist; he makes these Tele/Esquire-style
basses from scratch with pine bodies & maple necks, in addition to his
other hand-crafted guitars. This particular demo model is finished in a
heavily-"relic'ed" nitro Daphne Blue, with matching headstock & a
nice, fat "D"-shaped neck. With a great job of
"relic-ing"ing, this bass looks like it's been played for 20 years,
but all of the hardware (inc. Switchcraft jack & CTS pots) is new &
will last for decades. Fret markers are actually rustic inlaid carpet tacks,
the frets are StewMac # 0151 (Medium/Higher). The truss rod adjustment is the
type that EVERY player wants: a wheel-type nut that's easily adjusted with any
sort of small screwdriver or allen wrench. Handy!
This bass keeps it simple, with (1) Fender Samarium Cobalt Jazz Bass
Pickup, strategically placed, for a cross between a Jazz/Precision Bass sound -
it sounds full, noiseless & INCREDIBLE! Playability is excellent, the
strings are low without fret buzz
Pickup description from Fender's site:
"With their special design combination of traditional magnets and our
new Samarium Cobalt magnetic material, these SCN pickups offer the kind of
face-melting dynamic and magnetic response that bass players dream about, but
without the 60 cycle hum associated with single-coil pickups. Nothing short of
magic, these ten-pole scorchers pack more than 50 years of Fender tone heritage
to give you absolutely true Jazz Bass sound and feel in a noise-free
platform."
Having played guitar in working bands for many years, occasionally I'd get
a call to play bass & I owned a Hofner, Fender Mustang & Jerry Jones
Longhorn over the years. If I were still gigging, this would absolutely be my
go-to bass. The only short-scale Fender Mustang bass available now is
machine-made-in-Mexico; this is a hand-made-in-USA instrument, at a comparable
price to a Fender!
