This 1965 Fender Stratocaster Surf Green is owned by legendary rockabilly guitarist Brian Setzer

Neck code - 2 Dec 64 B
Potentiometer manufacturing date codes 137 6501
The body of this instrument appears to exhibit a Fender factory-original custom-color Surf Green finish, with areas of overspray (e.g. specifically the areas adjoining the neck pocket) and touch up. The majority of the body finish appears to exhibit the type of directionality, lacquer checking and white undercoat which we associate with Fender factory-original custom-color finishes of this period. The balance of the remaining neck and body finish appears to be original and exhibits typical deterioration with lacquer checking, small impact marks, surface scratches, compression marks and edge-chipping.
Upon examination, we note the following modifications and condition issues: a thin veneer of wood has been added to the bottom of the neck pocket(leaving a significant gap at the bass-side and rear of the pocket)and a reproduction “stick mark” has been created using additional yellow stain and Surf Green lacquer(we have no idea why this type of repair was executed), the tip of the pickguard at the treble-side body horn is broken off, the all of the original rubber pickup mounts(surgical tubing)have been replaced with metal springs, the output lead solder joints on the volume potentiometer have been re-heated, all three pickups exhibit solder joint re-heating(consistent in appearance with pickup re-winding or renewal of the wax-potting), the name “Rex L. Lewis” has been carved into the pickguard.
In other respects, this instrument conforms to the typical specifications of the model for the period in which it was made with double-cutaway solid body (with body cavity routs which are consistent in appearance with examples of the period), 11 screw multi-ply beveled-edge “mint green” plastic pickguard, tremolo bridge assembly, three single coil pickups with grey bottom bobbins, three white plastic “skirt style” control knobs, three-position blade-type pickup selector switch, maple neck with adjustable truss rod, four-bolt metal neck attachment plate with die-stamped L-series serial number, gold-color Fender “transition” logo four-patent-number peghead decal, “single line” Kluson Deluxe tuners with metal buttons, single rectangular “butterfly” string tree, 21-fret Brazilian rosewood veneer fingerboard with “close spacing” clay dot inlays, a mixture of nickel and chrome-plated metal hardware, and other typical Stratocaster model appointments.
The instrument is housed in a rectangular Fender hard-shell case from a slightly earlier period (in use 1963 through early 1964) with white Tolex exterior covering and red plush interior lining.
