Antique Artisto Stradivarius ("Model No. 9862") violin made in late 1800s or early 1900s in Mirecourt, France.

The label does not bear a "made in France" or "France" stamp, which typically indicates that the violin was made before 1910 when "made in..." stamps became a requirement.

This violin represents a fairly "senior" model (ranked the sixth highest of the nine made by Fiat Musica - please see the information at the end of this listing).

The violin is very healthy structurally. There are no cracks, seam separations, repairs or other structural defects that I can identify. Cosmetically, there are multiple minor nicks as shown in the images but nothing major to report. Please study the images carefully - I tried to provide as complete of a coverage as I could - and feel free to ask any questions.

Equipped with brand new Helicore strings.

Will be shipped with an antique/vintage case which, however, is in fair condition and is a bonus.

Artisto violins show up on auction sites from time to time. In the latest transaction I can find, an Artisto No. 9866 Paolo Maggini violin sold on Ebay on Sep. 8, 2020 for $1,000. The exact title of that listing is "4/4 Artisto Violin French Paolo Maggini Copy." It can be reviewed on Ebay by choosing Advanced Search and checking the "sold" box.

Below is an excerpt from a 1910 sales catalog describing "THE CELEBRATED ARTISTO VIOLINS" which were apparently marketed as "HIGH GRADE VIOLINS FOR PROFESSIONAL USE." (I found this information in an online forum.) According to the post, the catalog listed nine Artisto models, ranging in price from $16.90 to $78.25. The violin I am offering without any ambiguity fits the description of the No. 9862 model:
