Up for sale, a 1966 Mosrite "the Ventures" model bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Finished in original nitro lacquer Ink Blue, this two pickup model is quite a beast tonally, and the pair of single coils are wound nice and hot for a thick, growly thump that has a full midrange presence and plenty of smooth lows as well. Acoustically, this Mosrite has a clear, defined, and resonant tone that only comes with a vintage instrument that's been lovingly played for decades. The bass weighs in at a manageable 8lbs 8oz and balances quite well on a strap despite the far out body contours. Professionally setup and strung with 45-100 roundwound strings, this Mosrite is dialed in for ideal action and proper intonation.

The maple neck has a medium C shaped profile that borders on the slimmer side of things, with a bound Brazilian rosewood fretboard and original fretwire. There is a bit of wear down to the smooth, bare maple along the edges of the profile and this neck is extremely fast and easy to play with a 30 1/2" scale length. The frets are in great shape, showing faint wear beneath the A and D strings on frets 1-8, and no notable wear further up the fretboard. The bass plays cleanly in all positions, the truss rod is responsive, and there are no buzzes or dead spots on the fretboard. The original aluminum nut is present and measures 1 1/2" in wdith, which will feel very manageable and intuitive for any Jazz Bass aficionado. On the headstock, the original "duck foot" chrome Mosrite tuners are intact, and all turn smoothly with their original "M" buttons and oversized gear housings. These tuners are just plain cool! The original Ventures logo and Mosrite name are also present on the headstock face.

All of the electronics work as they should, and the Centralab pot codes date to mid '66. All of the original hardware is present too, including the mint green pickguard chrome "M" knobs, machined aluminum switch tip, molded Mosrite pickup covers, four saddle bridge, and rosewood/aluminum string anchor. One of the most eye-catching features of any Mosrite is the German Carve on the top, and the lower horn has a particularly accentuated and deep carve that highlights the extreme body contours of this bass. The Ink Blue finish is very saturated and dark, looking almost black in low light and 100% original with no touchup or overspray. There is a targeted spot of buckle rash on the back adjacent to the neck plate, along with prominent finish checking on the back in particular, and various small nicks from honest use on the body as a whole. As the photos show, this is a lightly played and well cared for vintage Mosrite bass in arguably the most desirable pickup configuration and color!

The original black hardshell case is included. This case features working latches and handle anchors, although the stock handle is no longer present. The black leather ends are quite clean, and the plush red interior is form fitted to the body contours of the bass.
