This is a late 60’s to early 70’s Jazz Bass with a Gallan badge. These were made by Tokai, or possibly Matsumoku. The research I have done points to Tokai, but other very similar basses are out there with the Greco badge.
Everything on this bass is original, excluding the trussrod cover, strings (which are brand new), and a hand carved bone but which is also new.
This bass is beautifully relict and has the original 3 color burst finish. I have applied two coats of clear lacquer to the body to preserve it in its current state. The body is smooth and feels like a pair of perfectly worn in pair of jeans when you hold it.
The one piece maple neck has some checking in the clear coat, but it fits right in with the body. The neck has been sanded down with 2000 grit sandpaper, just to soften the feel. The frets have some wear, but real grooves from string wear. It is bound, and has a rosewood fingerboard.
The pickups, pots, and wiring are all original.
It does not have a pick guard, and I almost bought one to put on it, but with the beautiful wear on the body, I figured it would stand out like a brand new pick guard. You can buy a tortoise shell guard on eBay for $14 with free shipping.
This is a one of a kind bass, and it will only get better with age.
