If your headstock has no back angle or a very small angle, the tree's are essential in keeping your highest 4 strings properly held down, thus improving sustain and lessening buzz from the nut. I call this finish Gunmetal .. it's not black, it's like a shiny dark gray .. I have seen this finish called Black Chrome as well ..
Yes, I know I have these mounted on a neck with chrome tuners. The point here is, who says you can't mix hardware finishes..?? If you like it, go with it.
