Vintage 1960’s JVC Victor Nivico Astrotone Unitone Model EG-35 Surf Guitar Gold Finish MIJ Japan Teisco Clean!

Incredibly clean guitar bought from the original owner. Freshly cleaned and serviced. Fingerboard has been oiled and guitar has been strung with a brand new set of D’addario 10 gauge strings. Neck is incredibly clean and has a Strat like “C” shape. Frets have virtually no wear at all and look to be medium size (not super thin like a lot of vintage MIJ guitars). Truss rod works. I did remove neck to check truss rod and while neck was removed I added a shim to the neck pocket to give the strings a better “break angle”. Guitar plays very well all up the neck. Very cool and rare Gold finish. I’ve owned hundreds of vintage MIJ guitars and basses over the years and gold is not a common color on these. Headstock says “Steel Reinforced Neck” but no badge at all. Plate on back has serial number and model EG-35 engraved. Last picture taken from Frank Meyers book “History of Japanese Electric Guitars” shows the Super Astrotone in sunburst finish and states these were made by Suzuki in the Ena Gakki factory.

All electronics were spray cleaned and video shows everything in working condition. The tone control did not seem to produce much difference in tone, but in my experience some of these guitars used such a small value capacitor that it’s hardly noticeable. I believe the switch at tip of chrome “mirror-like” pickguard is a tone cut switch. It seems to produce a darker or brighter tone depending on the setting. 2 volumes (1 for each pickup) and a master tone control. Tremolo tailpiece is very responsive and can dive down pretty good.

Please see all pics and video for more details.
I doubt that you’ll ever seen one as nice as this. If you’re into vintage Japanese guitars this one is definitely unique and in fabulous shape for 50+ years old.

This is a pre owned vintage guitar that will show signs of wear commensurate of age and use. There are light dings and dents and scratches. 2 of the tuners posts are slightly bent but still function just fine. The chrome pickguard does have some scratches on it but overall this has to be one of the cleanest examples of this rare guitar that you will ever see.

Selling as is and as shown and described.
No case or gig bag, but guitar will be packed safely and shipped quickly.
