Pfretzschner Aluminum Upright Bass Circa 1930 Rare!!!

Antique Pfretzschner Aluminum Double Bass Rare Circa 1930.

This is a very rare late 1920s early 1930s Aluminum Bass. I can not find a label inside but there were only 2 companies that made these at the time. As is, the bass is playable and sounds fine. As a bass player I would probably have my own set up done. You will want to change strings, maybe lower string height a little, etc. Instrument hasn’t been used in many years. I have left it as I acquired it. These are popular among rockabilly players and some jazz players. Also a very cool collectible piece of history. Sting even has one!!!

Some of the things to take note of: (please check all pictures)

There is no endpin- no screw hole either for endpin. Appears you would just use a wooden one cut to your height with this type.

There is a neck repair at the bottom of neck

There is a neck repair at the top of the neck near the scroll

Both seem like they were done many years ago and seem to be holding fine though maybe not the prettiest of work

Bridge seems to maybe have a slight curve

Neck appears to be an Eb neck

I have tried to describe everything as honestly as I can. If you have any questions on the bass or need additional pictures please contact me. I think this would be a good example of one of these for the player looking for one. These are very hard to find in playing condition. Body looks very good. This one has the arched back. (Much nicer than the flat back ones imo) looks to have an ebony fingerboard as well.
