About This Listing

Released in 1962/1963, here we have a super-rare Wurlitzer 145 tube-driven electric piano. Only 4,000 produced in that short time window, along with model 140 (solid state amp) and model 720 (tube/console)....so (maybe) less than 2,000 145s?? They were not generally exported from the USA. Used by Little Feat + many more such bands.....
This one is s/n 30796. It has been properly restored & serviced by Klassic Keys GB. Cosmetically, it has a "distressed" appearance, that reflects its 57 years of existence....and just looks so cool. Complete with original legs, music stand & new sustain pedal. There is a front lid; this stashes the legs and protects the keys in transit. Mains cord is fixed.
Tube (valve) amplifier now runs @ 220Vac and 50Hz. This required professional fitting of a new UK transformer. US mains runs @ 60Hz (cycles per second)....so most transformers will overheat/melt if operated @ 50Hz (seen it happen.....messy!) As all tubes have been tested, the amplifier is now good for another 50 years; one special tri-wotsit valve being responsible for the glorious vibrato that is hugely characteristic of Wurlitzer "electronic" pianos....and they were around ten years before any Fender Rhodes, matey.....There is an output suitable for external amplifier/recording, and a h/phone socket, which defeats the h/duty internal speaker if any 1/4" jack is plugged in. All mechanical action parts have been serviced. The reeds have been nurtured, and now produce good tone/volume/sustain....this takes a long time to get right!  All tuned & voiced, off course. The individual hand-made wooden keys are in very good condition. The actual (nearly) hum-free tone of the piano is powerful & bassy, due to the relatively large interior space. The keycase is wooden, the top lid is metal. Its universally acknowledged that the "140" Wurlitzers were THE best models they ever made....to play it is inspiring and very satisfying..... Now priced at £3375 (export price being £2812.50 -no 20% UK VAT), this is same price as a refurbed EP200A, and will also continue to accrue in value. We can ship (nearly worldwide). Tell us where you are; speedy quote will be found.
