About This Listing

1978-80 Fresher Les Paul w. Solid Flame Top and Nitro

I am offering for sale a top-of-the-line Fresher Les Paul. Made in Japan between 1978-1980. I originally bought this from a Japanese collector. It is either an FL800 or an FL-1200 with its confirmed solid flame top and sunburst nitro finish and would have been Fresher's flagship model retailing at 80-120 000 yen. It features historically correct 59 specs, meaning correct headstock angle and no pancake body or veneer back/top. I am not 100% sure if Fresher made these in-house or as OEM. The construction is very similar to early Tokai Les Paul Reborn- and Burny FLG-series (1977-1982), as well as some specimens from Fresher's sister brand Argus. The guitar weighs in at 4,1 kg which makes for a very resonant and lively Les Paul.

Body: 2 pc. South American/Honduras old growth mahogany. The seam is very well hidden and can only be seen from the sides, around the switch area. Solid flame maple top showing clear grain lines going into both pickup cavities. Medium intensity. Thin Nitro-lacquer sunburst finish/cherry back.

Neck: Old-growth mahogany with a dark, even rosewood fretboard, real MOP inlays, and fret-edge binding. Medium 1960 styled neck. The fretboard shows some light figuring and Braz like, black mineral streaks.

Pickups/Hardware: Both pickups seem to be correct for the era, but are not identical. Front pickup is a vintage Gotoh PAF with black plastic lead, identical to those of pre-1983 Tokais. The bridge pickup has no stamps or markings and features a brass baseplate and vintage braided wiring. Both pickups are good sounding, are vintage-voiced, and measure around 8k.

500k pots with 50's wiring and real 50's Gibson Bumble-bee caps. MIJ ABR-1 bridge, tailpiece, and high-quality double-ring Kluson-style tuners. The double-ring tuners are typical of late 70's MIJ construction, up to early 1980, as well as 1960-inspired builds.

Cosmetic Condition: In very good condition considering its age. Some small chips and a few scratches around the back and sides. Naturally aged hardware.

Playability: The guitar has reasonably low fret wear and plays great. Sets up and intonates nicely. The body is very resonant, with a clear acoustic tone and good sustain.

Weight: 4,1 kg

Modifications/Repairs: All original hardware. No modifications/repairs except electronics.

Case: Gigbag. Will be packaged professionally in a heavy shipping box for safe int. shipping.
