Pro Horn player and Horn teacher is selling a 1962 Conn 8D Elkhart!!! This is a one-owner horn! The 900,000 series is highly sought after, and you'll see why with this one! It is in ALL-ORIGINAL CONDITION! 8D stamped on leadpipe/ Elkhart engraving on bell. Serial # 914753. This is one terrific horn! It has an ENORMOUS sound to die for! Brilliant overtones in the high register with excellent, rock-solid pitch. The extreme low notes are wonderful. Of course the overall range has great consistency of tone, and did I mention the BIG SOUND?!? Oh man, if you need a horn that will cut through anything....... knock your socks off!
This vintage instrument has been well-maintained over the years by its owner, a professional Horn player. I recently cleaned it by hand, and the valves all work PERFECTLY, although I do not know the last time that it had a professional cleaning. Speaking of the valves, the horn has WONDERFUL compression. Don't ask what the "numbers" are because I don't have the equipment for that kind of scientific testing. :) Besides, this Elkhart plays phenomenally, so I know that the valves are still good. Cosmetically, I see one faint line on the bell taper due to the removal of a dent. Good repair. Otherwise, NO resoldered joints. There is some lacquer wear near the hand grip and mostly up inside of the bell. Teeny weeny dings on the bell and a small area of lacquer wear on the inside of the bell near the edge. It does not look like a repair to me. Comes with the original Conn hard case which is in amazing condition also. If you have been looking for an all-original Elkhart, this is probably the best deal out there on one in such nice condition. Also comes with a Conn 2 mouthpiece. Take this horn to college with you! Both you and your teacher will have a grand time playing this horn!
