MOSRITE
500 BLUESBENDER
“ANOTHER HIPPY GUITAR”
1972
SN: N00177
EXTREMELY RARE.
FEW BUILT.
COMPLETELY RECREATED.
I picked this one from
my collection to have “rejuvenated” by Kevin Smith of TONESMITH Guitars in
Minnesota. Kevin is one of the most
creative and competent guitar builders I know.
He is the guy chosen by VOX/Korg to build their “reissue” limited
edition guitars a few years back.
This Mosrite Guitar.
Semie Moseley is my
GUITAR HERO. He was creative, innovative, and independent. But most
of all, He Never Backed Down. This guitar is a great example of his
ability to adapt to a changing market especially during a time when cultural
changes happened almost daily and were reflected in the music being
played.
This model, the “500
Bluesmaker”, along with the “Stereo 350”, built in the early 1970’s were what
many called his “hippy” guitars designed by Semie to give the rock guitar
player a solid body “cooler” Mosrite guitar.
They both had custom electronics that was featured on many guitars of
this time period. Look at the ad attached to this listing. Suddenly the
beach boy has long hair, beard, and is wearing a black turtle neck and he is
standing on a California hillside. The change has come.

binding Top and Back of body have been bound.
3.
New pickups. TV JONES Power-tron
pickups. “The Power’Tron was born out of our desire to create a pickup that has
the character of a PAF-style humbucker yet retains the essence of a
Filter’Tron. It sounds a little bit darker and somewhat gnarlier, with more
windings — as much as a PAF humbucker — for hotter output. Mixing the vintage tone of a golden-age PAF
with the rockabilly twang of a late-'50s Filter'Tron. Full body and a clear top
end that is naturally dynamic. Digging in reveals a chunky low-end breakup
paired with a barky top-end grit that sounds amazing through a tube amp. This
is a great choice if you like the overall Filter’Tron sound but want more guts
and glory than usually provided by lower output pickups.
This is now an amazingly
beautiful Mosrite guitar with all the attitude it deserves.
