Up for sale is a Guild DV6 High Gloss, Cedar top. This Guild was built in Westerly, Rhode Island in 1997. It comes with a beautiful set of Mahogany back and sides that are fully bound in a creme colored binding. It is in very good condition with only some minor cosmetic flaws. As part of the very popular DV series, this "dreadnought vintage" guild is one of my favorite models that guild has ever produced, regardless of price. I have owned three of these DV6 model guilds, and while I owned them, they always lived on a guitar stand, and were rarely put away in their cases. If you love dreadnoughts, like the Guild Mahogany D40, D25, or D35, you must give the DV6 a chance. They are one of the most affordable guilds out there on the used market where you still get some higher end appointments like body binding, headstock inlays, herringbone sound hole rosette, Nitro finish, all solid wood construction, and hand built in the USA.
I am listing this one for more than my other DV6s because of it's rarity. From my research on this model, I found a listing on George Gruhn's website where he had one listed for sale with the cedar top, and it said that only 12 were ever built. I am not going to say that is the correct number, but I will say that I have only seen two of these before. I guild guitar hunt all over the internet everyday looking for guilds, and these just do not come up for sale often. I will try and look further into the production numbers, and talk to some guild experts I know.
The guitar does have some minor cosmetic flaws that I want to address. There are several pick strumming marks on the top, just above the sound hole. Since taking the pictures, some of these have buffed out when i cleaned the guitar up. But they are still visible in certain lighting conditions. There are various dings, dents, and scratches throughout the guitar. All of them seem to come from good, honest play wear and not abuse. There are a few "bear claw" figure marks in the guitar's top that also look like scratches, but they are really just figuring in the wood. I pointed these out with black arrows in one picture, while marking some other scratches with blue arrows. The guitar's back has some light belt buckle rash markings, but I could not get them to show up in any of my pictures. There are a few scratches around the sides and on the end of the guitar near the strap button area. The guitar's fretboard and metal frets show little sign of wear. The guitar's nitrocellulose finish has no weather checking that I can find. That is rare for a guitar that has obviously been played a lot by previous owners.
Overall I rate this as a very nice guild acoustic with a big, broken in sound, in very good condition. The cedar top really adds some warmth and texture to the classic guild dreadnought sound. It has a wonderful smell inside the sound hole that will make you think of Christmas trees. Here is your chance to own a vintage guild that is very rare, with nice appointments, for just under 1,000 bucks.
The only guitars I buy, sell, and collect are guild acoustics. I am adding more used and vintage guilds to my inventory every week. Please check back with me often to see what new guilds I have found as I daily guitar hunt for the best guilds, in the best condition, to offer up for sale. Thanks for looking!!
