People have been inquiring us about and/or requesting for a vintage version of I-1 pickups (SETbucker Inspire Series). V-I1 is our response to such needs. V-I1 is wound at CJLab workshop in US, with vintage style parts like braided wire, wooden spacer and long-legged baseplate.

Why not a clone but "Inspired"?
V-I1 is wound according to the known Dry Z specs (AlNiCo3, PE42, etc) BUT has 2 differences:
1. It uses imperial screws like the original Gibson humbucker, while the original Dry Z (most of MIJ pickups) uses metric screws.
2. Original Dry Z neck and bridge pickup resistances are known to be very close to each other or random if different. The V-I (also I-1) bridge pickup is over-wound compared to the neck like a typical modern humbucker set (CJ's preference, as it sounds better that way).

As for I-1 (SETbucker version of V-I1)... Dom Polito, one of the main guitarists of classicalbumslive.com, who purchased a I-1 set for his Gibson 1959 Reissue (R9) Les Paul, agreed with me on what I said in the description "It feels like my Les Paul should have sounded this way but I didn't know before". I think it simply tells all about this pickup set! And guess I don't really have to mention that he said this set was the best among over 50 pickup brands/models he had ever tried on his LPs :)

FZ (Fantastic Z) is a vintage version of FMZ (Fantastic Mr. Z) with vintage style parts like braided wire, wooden spacer, long-legged baseplate and nickel cover. It is based on the legendary "Dry Z" pickup made by Greco in 1980-1981 for their high-end Les Paul models. It comes with an AlNiCo 3 (simply, A3) magnet. A3 is known to generate the least magnetic strength among all AlNiCo family, resulting in super "flat" response to the all frequency range. The tone is true to the guitar wood character. It shines with light to mid overdrive. The sound out of it is... It feels like my Les Paul should have sounded this way but I didn't know before... It sounds weird but that's the best description I can make. If you like vintage sound and are not happy with your current pickups, this would be a great tryout.
