About This Listing

The Twisted Electrons Therapsid MKII -- make your chiptune dreams a reality!  I am the second owner of this unit, and it is in near-perfect shape.  There are two 8580 SID chips currently installed, and two 6581 chips are included -- swapping the chips is easy (although a chip puller is recommended), and the two versions definitely have different attributes.  Can be controlled via MIDI (1/8" to MIDI cable required) or CV, so it's easy to integrate with your modular or MIDI studio (or both!).  If you grew up with a Commodore 64, as I did, the sound of this will take you back -- particularly the noise waveform, which to my ears is especially distinctive and cool.  I did a lot of poking around to find a SID synth, and the Therapsid MKII is by far the most hands-on.  Having two SID chips installed gives you stereo output, and a few other options besides -- check out the video that's linked in this description.

This unit also comes with a US power supply at the correct voltage.  The 8580 chips work great, and I tested the 6581s when I got it and they worked as well -- but being vintage items these are sold AS IS (and to clarify: the synth hardware itself is very new, but relies on old or NOS chips to generate sound -- more info is available on the Twisted Electrons website).  Just thinning the herd to make way for some Eurorack gear.
