You're looking at Scott Splawn's original recipe. This is the angriest-sounding Splawn amp there is. Up for sale is a pre-Gears, 3-preamp-tube, two-input, Heyboer iron '05 Quick Rod. Check out the Splawn message board, where a number of users swear by these 3-pre Quick Rods. Everything Scott Splawn touches has his own take on the 1-in-100 magic Marshall, and while I've previously owned both a '09 and a '13 QR, this '05 is my favorite of the bunch. All Quick Rods sound great, but there's just something special about how aggressive these early ones sound.
Current production JJ tubes. Running JJ 6550s from Tube Depot in the power section. Guide pin on one of the 6550s was broken, but glued back in place and works without issue. Tubes will be pulled, wrapped, and boxed prior to shipping. I pack guitar amps bulletproof.
The amp has no working issues but is definitely player-grade cosmetically and that's reflected in the low price. I'm rating the cosmetic condition as "good", since it's seen a lot of use. Full disclosure: this is not a museum-piece, but a road-worn piece of equipment. Lots of cosmetic wear here and there, with various blemishes on the tolex, handle, and faceplate, so please check out the pictures as they are part of the amp's description. Of note in particular, there is some scoring/scratching on the faceplate around the treble knob (only picture that captured this well was the whole front shot of the amp), some wear and oxidation on the handle, and some additional holes were drilled in the internal wooden standoffs near the back of the headshell for a makeshift back panel (not included).
If you don't see something pictured in this listing, then expect it doesn't come with the amp. Power cable and 3-button Splawn footswitch is included, but no back panel or preamp covers are included. OD1 and OD2 are switchable using the footswitch. I'm including a EWS Subtle Volume Control pedal in this listing. Splawns over the last 10 years or so have come stock with a Loop Volume control, allowing great control over bedroom volumes. By plugging the EWS volume pedal in the loop of this amp (no cables included), you can get the same great control of lower-volume tones as on the newer Splawns while having the aggressive voicing of an early QR.
Shipping to the CONUS only for a flat-rate of $150. If actual shipping is lower, I will refund you the difference, but I don't cut corners on packing materials and this usually generates greater shipping fees due to added dimensions and weight. To me, it's a necessity...knowing how roughly some gear is handled during transit nowadays. I ship with a signature required and your Reverb and Paypal shipping addresses must match for us both to be protected. In the past, I've had to cancel transactions, refund buyers, and relist items for this very reason.
Attaching a YouTube video of another '05 Quick Rod (not this particular amp), so you can get a feel for how great these old Splawns sound.
I appreciate you taking the time to check out my listing!
