Here is a very cool project I gave up on. It is a replica of a 1965 Fender Duo Sonic II. What happened was I refinished an original Mustang and had paint left over. Some guy sold me a 1960s Fender acoustic neck that was modified to look like it came off an electric. Another guy sold me a backyard Duo Sonic body that I ended up refinishing myself with the rest of the paint I had. I even relic'd the body afterwards to get the proper finish checking lines so it looked authentic. The problem was in my haste I forgot it wasn't a matching body and neck and didn't measure scale length. I put the bridge in the wrong place twice the moved it back some before giving up.
This is a tricky guitar because the neck was originally from a Malibu or Newporter and it was shaved so the heel is very narrow as is the nut. It measures to about 1.5" on my ruler. The strings had to be adjusted on the bridge so they'd fall within the confines of the neck. I planned on putting a mute plate to cover the old holes I dug then move the bridge back a little further. I used original and high quality parts on this build. The tuners are real Klusons. The bridge plate is from the 60s but the saddles are reissue Telecaster saddles. The pickups were custom made by hand for the guitar and measure to about 6.5K Ohms. The neck pickup is reverse wound reverse polarity for noise reduction. The control plate is original as is the jack. All high quality CTS pots were used with a Russian PIO capacitor. The switches are NOS from the 60s and are already getting frosty just like on a vintage guitar. The control cavity plates are original as well. The neck plate is a custom made unit with a random serial number. The Fender Mute plate is an original unit as well as the pickguard. A couple of knobs will be thrown in as well. A high quality reproduction logo was used after refinishing the neck. The new bone nut hasn't been cut to depth yet. The neck is pretty straight but the last fret is sticking up a bit on the treble side. This was on a playing guitar previously. There is tape residue on the bottom of the body that will clean off. It will be shipped in a gig bag.
