About This Listing

The Q961 Sequencer Interface is modeled after the Moog 961 Interface module and is used to combine trigger signals to create a single trigger output. Trigger signals (Called Gate signals in modern systems) are logically OR'd together - any trigger input gets routed to the output. Column 'A' trigger inputs go directly to the output, while Column 'B' trigger inputs can have their On-time manually limited or extended from 40ms to 4 seconds with the panel control.

Basics
The most common use for the Q961 is to combine triggers from the Q960 sequencer so certain stages produce notes (Triggers to Envelope Generators), and others do not.

Varying Control of Envelope Generators
By using the column B inputs, changes in the trigger timing can be used to produce interesting effects not possible with a static trigger time.

As a Keyboard Gate Modifier
Use the Q961 to make trigger signals from every keypress have a certain timing.

Combining Triggers
It's important to realize that each trigger output of a Q960 sequencer is On for the entire time that the stage is On. This means that when adjacent triggers are combined using a Q961 Interface or Q963 Trigger Bus it results in one long trigger instead of distinct triggers.

The way to create distinct triggers at the output of the Q961 Interface or Q963 Trigger Bus is to use a Q128 Switch to perform a logical AND on the output of the Q963. The patch is simple:

Q963 output --> Q128 A input
Q960 Oscillator out --> Q128 control input
Q128 common jack --> The new gate

When using an external oscillator to shift the Q960, simply patch it to the Q128 control input - instead of the Q960's oscillator output. The Q960's internal oscillator output is ON for 90% of the stage ON-time, so the resulting triggers will be On 90% of the time too.
