Dennis Chambers found a crash he loved on a ca. 2000 performance tour to China - one with a "dark, special sound." He liked it so much that he asked Zildjian to re-create it for him. The 18" Zildjian Oriental Crash of Doom was the result. This cymbal doesn't bare any of the hallmarks of a traditional Zildjian cymbal. Its flat profile, wavy edge, and irregular lathing deliver some funky tones. Its full, somewhat-trashy attack is nice for accents. And its big wash is great for filling space. Zildjian tells Sweetwater that some drummers have even taken to using the Oriental Crash of Doom as their main ride cymbal. So if you're looking to get lots of miles from a single-cymbal setup, set your eyes on this one-of-a-kind crash: the 18" Zildjian Oriental Crash of Doom.

The 18" Crash Of Doom has been unceremoniously expunged from the Zildjian Catalog. THE HORROR!!!!

It actually was pretty hard to find the 18" back in the day too!

Fortunately I happen to have right here and offered up for your immense pleasure this Nasty and FULL and DARK and LOWER PITCHED sounding NO LONGER MADE Zildjian 18" Oriental CRASH of DOOM that is in EXCELLENT Condition! Check out the pictures! I'm thrilled to report there are

Nicks, cracks, or dings on this 18". It's in GREAT SHAPE with a light patina beginning to form. And YES, it IS supposed to be dented and wavy on the edge. That's the Crash of Doom baby!

Zildjian describes this Beast as:

"A truly 'one of a kind' monster Crash. Ultra-trashy, very dark and low pitched. Features an immediate, explosive attack and a tremendous, broad, full-bodied sustain. An exceptionally exotic sound for special accents and effects.

Dennis Chambers challenged Zildjian to recreate the 'rediculously trashy sound' of a Crash cymbal he had found on a trip to China."

And that's a pretty good description, except for their spelling error.

Weighing in a lovely 1575 grams this 18" Crash of Doom plays like a Medium Thin to Medium DARK Effects Crash or Ride. As you can see, it's heavily hammered, especially around the edges. And speaking of the edges, they are wavy and wonderfully distorted. The tone of this 18" Crash of Doom is DARK and complex and FULL it has a great spread. Think late 80s K Dark Crash-but a bit nastier and trashier and with a greater spread. And this particular Crash of DOOM has a fantastic PROJECTION...it has a broader dynamic range than most.

This 1575 gram beauty makes a great alternate ride because it's lower in pitch, dark, and has a nice, chime-like quality to it.

The genius behind this Zildjian Crash of Doom is that you can use it for whatever the hell you want. It's meant to inspire both the audience AND the performer. Giant Dark Crash, Mediun Thin Light Left Side Crash/Ride, or Nasty China-like Sound Effect. Whatever you choose this Crash of Doom will DARKEN your tone and turn heads. Use it anytime you need a Big Ass Nasty Dark, semi-trashy 18" tone that ALSO yields a great sustain and projects.

And you cannot get this 18" any more! They're pretty hard to find!!
