If
you like, or love as I do, the tone of those old
Harmony and Silvertone silver or gold foil pickups with the Mustache,
Diamond cutout and the "S" scroll covers, well, you're absolutely
gonna love this 1200 for your acoustics soundhole.
The 1200 pickup has the same tone as those pickups because it uses the "exact" same bobbin/coil as those pickups do,
Yes, it is the exact same pickup inside, it is just a different
mounting format or just has a different cover, that's it, same amazing
tone, just a helluva lot easier to put in your acoustic guitar, cool
right,? right!
See the images below to compare the rivet holes and the covers to the 1200's, they match perfectly.
Those
pictures, show images comparing an opened 1200 to the vintage
Rowe-DeArmond silver/gold foil, diamond and "S" cover pickups used in
Silvertone, Harmony, Airline and other guitars.
Inside
the 1200 is the "EXACT" same bobbin/coil as those much revered pickups
mentioned earlier, just riveted to the top plate to put that killer tone
into your acoustic.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is why I love the model 1200 pickup, it's a gold / silver foil for your acoustic guitar.
Designed for 12 string (nick-named the Bajo Sexto) guitar and sounds just as good if not better on a standard 6 string.
Excellent
working condition, amazing sounding pickup with pure power and zero
feedback even if put through a Marshall stack , yes a Marshall stack at
full volume with an acoustic guitar, its crazy but, wow, it truly works,
very cool.....
Virtually changes
your acoustic guitar into an electric tone machine especially when
overdriven or when balls to the wall distorted, none of that humming and
wowing of feedback from the acoustic, NONE, ZERO, NADA, just amazing
tonality that just won't quit!
Sounds
amazing under any condition capturing the subtle nuances of the finest
acoustics when used clean, such a cool pickup, beyond a shadow of a
doubt, the most versatile pickup to amplify or electrify an acoustic
guitar ever produced.
By far, one of my favorite DeArmond pickups ever made for the soundhole of an acoustic, it's universal right down to its core!
-----------------------------------------------------
This is a very cool looking pickup.
Meters at 9.54KΩ
All components are 100% vintage original to this pickups coil, not a rewound pickup.
Protective felts: Original, soft and secure, won't mar your guitar.
Output wire: 36" of new Belden wire, added 1/4" Female jack, more than enough to get behind and around the strap button.
Once it gets to you, just
plug your standard guitar cable in and play till your fingers bleed! If
your a DeArmond 1200 1st time user, you will love it too.
The
rivets line up perfectly and you can get the tone your getting from
your electric guitar from................................AN ACOUSTIC
GUITAR, simply amazing tone!
Item Specific Description:
I'll describe this particular model 1200.
It
sounds absolutely perfect having that mojo vibe for which these are
sought. Meters out at a powerfully strong 9.30KΩ and is bold and clean.
Volume control: works perfect 0-100, volume
wheel is centered in its designated slot, doesn't rub the body, perfect
height through top bracket for easy adjusting, not so easy you hit it
when you play.
The volume wheel has a little chip in the finger gripping teeth just about full volume, a cool marker actually, not huge though.
Pickup
top: super clean, no corrosion, with lots of mojo and lots common play
wear scratches but. zero dings or dents, only surface pick/string
scratches from age and use, polishing/cleaning as in the pictures, still
very nice.
Chrome: still very nice but some dulling at the ends where you surmise it would be.
This is simply a very nice, clean, excellent sounding and perfectly working, completely original vintage 1960's pickup.
It looks amazing and has been thoroughly cleaned, inspected and improved.
You can be playing in under a minute after
you get it, it's that easy to install with only minimal if any de-tuning
even needed.
I usually clean and polish prior to imaging then listing, I did not do this yet so, it will look so much nicer upon arrival.
The 2nd to last image compares the 1200 body and the bobbins of the silver and gold foils.
Pickup has received my once over "Improvement" treatment.
About my; Once Over "Improvement treatment":
The last pic shows examples of these improvements.
I add several layers of protectiveover the 2 swing claw feet that support the pickup on the logo side.
I
will also add heat shrink over the end of the cable where it meets the
pickup and connector.
I
also add a layer over the jack itself you choose. This type work is an
easy $45-60, then add the cable and connector, most would charge over
$100 for similar work, I'm the only person I know that adds this
specific work with your purchase, free.....
I
add a layer of heat shrink over the female 1/4" jack. This layer helps
prevent any marring of the guitar should the jack swing and hit your
guitar
I added 2 layers over the spring clip tip at the volume side
to prevent any marring of the soundhole while installing and for the
duration of the install.
I started doing this mod in the 80's on the 1200's, RHC-B's and 210's.
Aside
of putting on new cables, this mod has to be my most requested step
of personal modifications I do on these type {soundhole} pickups when
customers send them in requesting the works. When customers
ask for the works, this is always included.
This proactive modification
helps further protect any marring of your instrument and works well
protecting the underside of the soundboard while still holding the
pickup securely in place.
There is nothing I do with these
pickups that cannot be reversed with zero signs it was ever there. Much
like a DeArmond pickup being uninstalled from a guitar, zero evidence.
The spring clip and adjustable swing arm supports hold it very well and have my custom covers on both.
