Background:

Luis Fernandez de Cordoba is a Panamanian born luthier, who started building guitars in 2000. Although he began constructing and repairing acoustic guitars of all styles, it wasn’t until 2009 that he dedicated himself exclusively to the world of classical and flamenco.

Whole-heartedly inspired by the traditional Spanish method of construction, Luis has spent a great deal of time admiring the great masters of the past like Antonio de Torres, Santos Hernandez, Hermann Hauser I, Manuel Velazquez, José Romanillos, and Robert Bouchet. He also spent time apprenticing in Granada, Spain. On the US side of his studies, he has visited the workshops of Richard and Marshall Brune as well as Jeff Elliott, another of his inspirations.

Description:

This guitar is an excellent example of Luis' best work. It was built with striking materials and beautiful inlay work - the timeless "herringbone against green background" is the dominant design, found in the center strip on the head, around the purfling of the entire top and is the central element in the rosette. Back and sides were made with a stunning set of walnut - 3D in texture, moving almost like a lava-lamp when tilted at various angles in light.

The instrument is very lightweight in build, making it ultra-responsive and powerful, much like the southern Spanish guitars of the mid-twentieth century. Sound is rich, wholesome and perfectly balanced. Simply a great guitar, all around - beautiful to the eye and ear. The sound is rich and lush and although second-hand, the instrument is in like-new condition with barely any signs of use. Also the tuning machines in the photos have been replaced with a high-quality set of Graf machines.
