1949 Epiphone Zephyr Deluxe Regent - Serial #85149. The guitar that Hank used to record his million seller “Sugarfoot Rag”. Hank sent this guitar to Paul Bigsby and Paul added two Bigsby pickups, an aluminum nut, Bigsby bridge and the custom “Sugarfoot” pickguard. This was Hank’s main guitar for a number of years and was on countless records in the late 40’s and 50’s, as well as an endless string of dates across the country, including live on the Grand Ole Opry stage with everyone from Eddy Arnold to Hank Williams. Signed by Hank Garland and comes with a notarized COA signed by Hank.
Condition: Various small cosmetic markings from years of use in the studio and on the road. As documented in the photos there is a small amount of separation of the binding and sides near the end block, but it is very stable and I was unable to get it to move. There is also very minor shrinkage of the binding in various spots on the guitar, as well as minor shrinkage of the heel cap plate that give the appearance of the neck joint having shifted, but the neck joint/angle are perfectly fine and stable. There a few small plugged holes between the pickups where the original Epiphone pickups were once located, along with a few tight hairline stress cracks around the input jack that are also very stable. The original Bigsby pickguard shows minor warping as well as yellowing around the letters, but remains surprisingly crack free.
General: Like Hank's other guitars listed this guitar has been primarily kept in a climate controlled storage unit since Hank's accident in '61. The guitar was only occasionally brought out to show visitors and remains in the same condition as Hank left it in 1961. The strings currently on the guitar were the last set of strings Hank put on the guitar. The guitar comes with the original Stone Case as well as Hank's personal "HG" leather tooled guitar strap.
