Stop: Before you read my description. Since this is a 1 of a kind guitar...it is being sold with a No Return For Any Reason Policy. If shipped it will go in a box in box about the size If a small refrigerator.
Also on or before 3/10/23 the guitar could be off Reverb as it could be going to a Private Vintage dealer who sells by appointment only. If you're truly interested act now.
I've had the guitar in its case for a long while. After getting a note asking about the guitar...I popped the case and played 'Donna Lee' n it... It was perfect. I left the guitar out for a couple of days and can describe it in 1 word...MAJESTIC. I'd put this up against any 17" arch top at any price. If you are seriously considering being it's next keeper. Send me an email clearly stating you understand and agree to my No Return Policy. My pics and description are accurate.
I bought this guitar from a wheeler dealer on ebay about 10 years ago. He took it in on a trade and needed fast cash when I found it.
It was sold to me as a real 1954 Excel. Just recently I got it's true back story.
From what was told to me the Body was destroyed, the neck and all of the original hardware was purchased at a guitar show. Around 1990-91, the buyer commissioned Jim Triggs to make the body...Leaving the neck completely stock (nothing was done to it) The finish of the new body matches the Original Burst finish on the neck perfectly. Using the Original Hardware it was put back together. The guy who orchestrated this guitar made 1 critical mistake...he assumed Triggs would make a D'A Excel body style. His Mistake...was a break for me and could be Your Lucky Break as well. The neck is approximately 65 plus years old while the body is 30 something. Make no mistake this is an Amazing guitar, IMHO would rival any other 17" arch top at any price. The guy that had the work done went on to find a period correct D'A case, and an actual shop receipt and even had D'Angelico's signature put in the cavity. .This is as close to the real deal as you can get at a fraction of the cost. The best way to describe it is New Old Stock. If you're like me...not only will the guitar amaze you, you'll beam with pride of ownership. The guitar is minty. Kent Armstrong wound a double pole pick up for it and I ordered the pick guard and had a case cover fitted for the case. This guitar has historic value and will always be worth my asking price.
Specs: 4 1/4" Wide Nut 1 3/4" Neck 19 1 /4" Nut to middle of the 12th fret 13.5"
Body upper bout 14" lower bout 17 1/4" The pics tell the tale. If you have any questions...Hit me up and I'll get right back to you.
**Ideally I'd prefer Local Pick Up in Hollywood, Ca. However I happen to have a a large Box in Box that could protect it from shipping evils. Should you elect to have it shipped...the packing will be done right, but once I give you the tracking number, it's your guitar. Fed Ex only insures a guitar for $1000.00 You can buy 2nd party insurance for cheap.
